ChipsetGenius will give you the flash drive chipset and firmware versions details - use an on board USB 2.0 port directly (not an external Hub).
Here is an example output from ChipsetGenius:
"Description: [I:]USB Mass Storage Device(USB3.0 FLASH DRIVE)
Device Type: Mass Storage Device
Protocal Version: USB 2.10 <- Hint: This device can run faster when plugged to a USB3.0 port (Note - would NOT work from my USB 3.1 ports)
Current Speed: High Speed
Max Current: 300mA
USB Device ID: VID = 1005 PID = B128
Serial Number: 0703677A1B7B1768
Device Vendor: USB3.0
Device Name: FLASH DRIVE
Device Revision: 0100
Manufacturer: USB3.0
Product Model: FLASH DRIVE
Product Revision: PMAP
Controller Vendor: Phison
Controller Part-Number: PS2251-07(PS2307) - F/W 05.01.10 [2016-03-16]
Flash ID code: 983A94937651 - Toshiba [MLC]
Tools on web: http://dl.mydigit.net/special/up/phison.html " Mainly in Chinese but utility names are in English so cut and paste and do google search.
So you see it gives the controller brand, part number and firmware version. Cut and paste the results into a text file for reference.
This is a good site.

Remember the firmware must be exact. You will have to search yourself. If you are not having fun here I would suggest dropping it and moving on. You have to have a curiosity with a passion to investigate this kind of stuff. If you do please keep me posted on your progress.
