Your system has three SATA ports! The first is servicing your HDD, the second the optical drive and a third which is unused (spare). Apple sold the system with a SSD as a premium config back in the day. Now I don’t recommend using the optical drive port in this series as its only a SATA II (3.0 Gb/s) Vs the HDD and Spare SATA ports which are SATA III (6.0 Gb/s). The better solution is to follow this guide [guide|6434] instead. As far as a thermal sensor the SSD really doesn’t need it. As SSD’s run a lot cooler than the mechanical HDD or Optical Drive. But, if you use the Optical Drive bay you do need to leave it plugged in as the system needs the input. The thermal sensor was only needed for the optical drive. Just place it some where on the SSD directly.
