I followed your steps holding down the volume up & down & the power button simultaniously several times with no success. Then decided to add the home button so holding the 4 keys down at the same time and it worked making the 'Skip' button show up on the configuring your phone page and it completed the process with no further problems. It pauses on that screen when no SIM card is installed. Thanks for your tip.
