I have to agree with Andy on this because of the fact it was not properly sealed. Without sealing it, it leaves the inner components vulnerable and something could easily get damaged with a screen popping in and out of place. You could take the screen off, use a tester, and see if the replacement screen got damaged. If not, the main hardware is going to needing testing. Check the physical hardware like wear and tear. Has dust or moisture damaged the cable connection? Is the cable not being held securely in place? Find the cause to know the why - the digitizer can get damaged easily but if you know that isn't it then continue to problem solve.
