Sometimes there is an even simpler solution; my headphone jack was having all sorts of issues. I used a flashlight to look inside the jack and found a build up of lint. I was able to remove it using a wooden toothpick, and had no problems after that. If that does not solve the issue, you may need to open up your media device and replace the headphone jack. Once the device has been opened, look inside to see if the headphone jack is noticeably bent; in which case, it can be bent back into place. If the jack does appear bent, you will need to replace the headphone jack itself.
