-A hot compressor is never a good thing to find, the refrigerant vapor entering the compressor helps cool the compressors motor windings. The compressor should not have overheated from running continuously, typically a bad capacitor will cause a high amp draw or being mechanically tight (worn) will cause a thermal overload as will being low on refrigerant. Once the compressor gets cold, and this will take up to 24 hours if it still will not run you need to ohm the windings to insure all 3 have continuity to another, f 1 does not the overload may be open or a compressor winding, however s it was hot to your touch I expect to find it was operating, see that the condenser coil is clean and fan is running.
