First of all, check to make sure that your sound is not muted or turned down too low. Another good check is to test another pair of headphones if you have them to ensure it is not due to a defect in the headphones themselves.

If the problem persists, unplug your headphones and see if any audio plays out of the device speaker. If not, try the following: Power off the device and restart it to see if that fixes the audio issue. If the problem remains, a factory reset may be necessary for your device.

A last-resort fix is to replace the headphone jack assembly itself, to repair a hardware error.
