Yes, you can alter which drive is the boot up drive once you install the OS on the SSD. To alter it you'll need to open the System Preferences settings. In the fourth grouping you should see a drive icon marked '''Startup Disk''' Open it up you'll then be greeted with a listing of the bootable volumes available. Click on your SSD drive and then restart. Thats it! From now on the SSD drive will be the primary drive.
