Samsung Chromebook XE500C21-A03US: After replacing the motherboard, how do you get it to be accepted?

I’ve replaced the motherboard in my XE500C21-H04US. I did this because the power adapter broke on the original motherboard. The original motherboard works just fine in all other respects; it just is unable to charge the battery. In fact, if I reinstall the old motherboard I can reinstall the OS and everything works fine. I have reinstalled it twice now to confirm.

With the new motherboard I am able to charge. It starts up to a black or blank screen. The system does not seem to accept the new motherboard. Is there something special I must do to get the new motherboard integrated?

I have tried a number of ideas and have included them below with the results.

Power on:

Screen stays off (un-lit)

Power button light is on

After about 17 seconds, a sound plays through the speakers

If I hold the power button for 3 seconds, it powers off

Pressing the mousepad or a variety of keys seems to have no effect (ctrl-d, ctrl-c, ctrl-z, ctrl-t, esc, random keys, …), neither before nor after the chime sounds.

Power on while holding the reset button on the bottom of the machine:

Screen illuminates, but remains "black/blank"

Press the power button once and it powers off immediately

Power on dev mode:

Same as powering on in normal mode, except the chime sounds after about 50 seconds

Power on with reset button in dev mode:

Same as normal mode

Power on, with reset button, wait and insert recovery USB:

Screen remains "black" (but on)

When I insert the disk, the screen flashes off then on again and then remains "black" (but on).

The USB disk light seems to indicate that data is being read. I leave it in for several minutes.

When the LED light on the disc is idle (SanDisk "breathing"), I remove it.

The screen turns off but the power button led remains on.

Pressing the power button for 3 seconds powers off.

Samsung Chromebook 2: Is the eDP cable 1-lane or 2-lane?

I'm going to replace the display with a higher resolution one, which has the same power signature and connector locations, but the higher resolution also demands a 2-lane eDP connector. I know that the 13.3" Chromebook 2 uses a 2-lane eDP connector since it's 1920x1080. I'm hoping that Samsung used the same connector on both machines to make things easier.

Samsung Chromebook Plus V2: Keys on Chromebook Not Working

I have an old Samsung Chromebook Plus V2, and some of the keys not working.

What I tried:

I took the keycaps off and cleaned the inside with Isopropyl Alcohol (91%) with a cotton swab.

I tore down the whole Chromebook, then reseated all the flex and ZIF connectors. (The other functions like trackpad, speakers, screen, etc. work fine)

Samsung Chromebook Series 3: Need help reconnecting trackpad ribbon cable to motherboard!

Hi. I replaced the battery on my 5-year old Chromebook. After it charged I had no cursor. I disconnected the trackpad and cleaned it with alcohol and replaced, replacing the ribbon cables, etc. Still no cursor. However, in the process of cleaning I disconnected ribbon cable port from the motherboard on the opposite end from the trackpad. I shouldn’t have done this. I thought it didn’t look like it was seated properly so I pulled up on it. Now I don’t know how to reconnect it. It doesn’t seem intuitive. Does it snap into place (doesn’t seem so)? Do I get it flush with the motherboard and push it forward toward the back of the computer? When I was playing around with it I noticed a tiny metal bracket or “arm” to the left of the place where the port should be seated. I inadvertently broke that off the board when I tried to bend it. I’m hoping that this can be fixed. The ribbon cable is securely clamped in the port, but the port is not connected to the motherboard. Also, still don’t know how I lost the cursor nor how to get it back. Thank you in advance for your great instructions and photos. I hope you can help me. I have the Samsung Chromebook 3. Thank you in advance!….elaine
