If your tablet is not charging and you have made sure your charger works, you may need to replace your charging port.

  1. Samsung Galaxy Tab A 10.1 Charging Port Replacement, Back Panel: paso 1, imagen 1 de 2 Samsung Galaxy Tab A 10.1 Charging Port Replacement, Back Panel: paso 1, imagen 2 de 2
    • Have the front of the device facing you.

    • Begin near one of the curved edges of the device (see photo two for visual example).

    • Place a plastic opening tool between the front and back panels.

    • If a plastic opening tool doesn’t work, using a metal spudger may work, but it may damage the plastic on the device.

    • Remember to remove the micro SD card (if present) before you begin.

    • Once the plastic opening tool is fully inserted, wedge it around the device’s edges to separate the panels.

    • Lift the back panel off of the device.

    • The back panel will make a clicking noise while being lifted off of the device.

    • Using a Phillips #000 screwdriver, remove the ten 4 mm screws around the battery.

    • Slide a plastic opening tool under the bottom of the battery close to the speakers and lift up.

    • The large rectangular white and black piece is the entire battery. Be careful not to puncture it.

    • Flip up the two ZIF connectors on the motherboard using the plastic opening tool.

    • Slide the orange ribbon cables out of the ZIF connectors.

    • Remove the front-facing camera.

    • Lodge the plastic opening tool under and lift the motherboard out of the tablet.

    • Be careful not to snag any connectors.

    • Remove the metal bracket that was underneath the charging port and set aside.

  10. Samsung Galaxy Tab A 10.1 Charging Port Replacement, Charging Port: paso 10, imagen 1 de 1
    • Place desoldering braid on one of four holes at top back of motherboard.

    • Place soldering iron on top of the desoldering braid on the gray part of hole to lift solder. If confused here’s a reference.

    • If desoldering braid gets covered with solder and won’t lift anymore, just use a new part of the solder wick.

    • Soldering iron will be very hot and can both burn your hand and possibly damage the device.

    • Follow same steps on other three holes.

    • Lift small gray metal piece from the motherboard.

Conclusión

To reassemble your device, place a new metal piece where old one was and solder it to the motherboard in the four holes on the opposite side of the motherboard.

It is impossible to unmount the old damaged USB-Interface this way. Beside the four solder-points ist is also soldered to 5 extremely small points on the motherboards opposite side. These are SMD-mounted contacts and in my case trying to unsolder them damaged the motherbords layout.

I was able to desolder it with a hot air rework station + soldering iron without damaging the pcb then using a wick cut at an angle + the heat gun to clean the mounting holes you must clean then fully so the new part will mount flush.

Also take care with resoldering the new connector not to bridge the pins on the usb port.

what is the model of USB connector here? I would like to buy in advance before opening

These instructions are really incomplete. In addition to the 4 through-hole points mentioned, there are also 2 large ground pads under the connector, and 7 tiny surface-mount pins on the back. Removing this port pretty much requires low-temp (chip-quick) solder or a hot-air rework station. Soldering it back on with only an iron proved quite difficult - hot-air rework station highly recommended. This took me about an hour, and I’ve been soldering (hobby mostly) for the better part of 30 years.

Also, there’s no reason to remove the battery to change the charging port. The motherboard can be removed without removing the battery. And really, the cameras should be disconnected too, rather than leaving them dangling by their ribbon cables.
