Use this guide to replace the motherboard in your Samsung Galaxy Note 4.

Insert a fingernail or plastic opening tool into the divot to the left of the rear-facing camera.

Gently pry and twist the flexible rear cover off the back of the phone.

Insert a fingernail or plastic opening tool into the recess in the bottom right corner of the battery and lift upward.

Remove the battery.

Remove the SIM card by first pushing the card slightly out of its housing, then pulling it the rest of the way.

Remove the sixteen 4.0 mm Phillips #00 screws securing the midframe to the display assembly.

Grasp the cap of the S Pen and remove it from its slot in the midframe.

Insert a plastic opening tool between the midframe and the display assembly.

Work the plastic opening tool around the perimeter of the phone to break the adhesive.
I also cracked my screen with this method ,not to be outdone I bought another phone for the screen .this time I used a thin guitar pick which I ran along the edges and around the phone carefully , it took a while but eventually worked the screen loose ( the glue area is small but still strong as I learned the first time) any way when the screen is loose enough , make sure the tabs on the inside cover are also loose (using the pick) I was able to then pop out the screen and replaced the mobo I have a nice new phone now ! Bottom line is don't pry on the screen it will crack loosen it completely and it will pop out nicely . Good luck .
"This adhesive is relatively weak, so no heat gun should be necessary." I don't agree with this statement. It's very hard to separate display from midframe.
This is not hard to do, but it is dangerous. The author is correct, no heat gun is necessary but it's easier with a heat gun or low or a hair drier on high. Don't use a metal blade, only use a guitar pick or plastic spluge. Be patient and do resist any temptation to pry *deeper*. Just keep prying shallow and horizontally. You may have to go around the perimeter several times but you will succeed.
As soon as you rush, decide you have to pry harder or let a tool go a millimeter or two *deeper* that is what will kill your LCD.
Entirely doable if you are very cautious.
I meant to add.. there are two ways to kill the LCD or possibly crack the glass. By going too deep in the seam. So stay shallow. But you can also damage the LCD by putting too much sideways horizontal stress on it too. So it helps to keep moderate pressure down on the top of the phone so that most of your prying sideways force goes towards deflecting the bezel outward and thereby dislodging the adhesive seal. So "pinch" the phone by holding the top and bottom between your fingers of one hand. Or set the phone on a flat surface and press down on the top (glass) of the phone moderately to try and keep the glass and LCD sandwich in place while you pry as gently as possible sideways and outward to dislodge that adhesive seal.
I cracked LCD in this step.
ACHTUNG! Es ist für einen Laien quasi unmöglich, das Display in diesem Schritt NICHT zu zerstören! Ich dachte auch ich bin besonders schlau und vorsichtig, hatte auf YouTube viele Videos angeschaut. Aber man hebelt unweigerlich die Frontscheibe etwas aus dem Rahmen, um den Kleber zu lösen, und dann ist es schon geschehen. Aber nicht die Frontscheibe zerbricht, die ist sehr stabil, sondern das ganz fragile LCD Display darunter bricht. Ich rate dazu, das Smartphone in einer Profiwerkstatt zerlegen zu lassen. Ob die das machen weiß ich nicht, das müsste man erfragen.
ATTENTION: It is almost impossible for a layman not to destroy the display in this step! I also thought I was especially smart and careful, I had watched many videos on YouTube. But you inevitably lift the windshield a bit out of the frame to loosen the glue, and then it happened. But it's not the windshield that breaks, it's the fragile LCD display underneath that breaks. I advise to have the smartphone dismantled in a professional workshop. I don't know if they do that, you'd have to ask them.

Use a plastic opening tool to loosen the clasps around the battery housing.
What replacement part do I need to replace those 4 metal connectors that connects to the battery to power it on? 2 of those metal connectors are broken

Push on the battery housing to separate the midframe from the display assembly.
If you want to break the LCD or if it is already broken, poke both your thumbs into the battery pocket as shown in the picture. This may snap off the back, but it will also crack the LCD. The better way is to put your right thumb into the top right corner of the battery well and your left thumb on the SC card slot, then hook your fingernails on the top corners and side edges of the rear housing and push gently to separate it from the midframe.
Remember, the LCD hinges at the top, the rear housing hinges at the bottom. Once you see how the charge port fits into the recess at the bottom of the rear housing, you will understand what I mean.
This Note 4 rear housing fits tighter than previous Samsungs such as the S3 & S4 where you can take out the screws and then pop off the rear housing easily with your fingernails. Be very careful around the touch button flex cables at the bottom or be prepared to replace that assembly. It is cheap, so you may want to go ahead and order that when you get an LCD assembly.

I've never been able to put these 2 ribbon cables back to the motherboard without first separating the AMOLED/digitizer screen assembly from the mid frame. What is the easiest way to get these ribbon cables plugged back in?

Are all variants of the note 4 the same? An att mobo could go into a vzw/sprint body or vice versa?

No. Even Samsung wouldn't accept even a paid repair because parts between models are incompatible.
I've tried to have an SM-910G here and if you are to replace it with an SM-910C, you'll also need to replace the front and back cameras.
I have done a few Note 4 motherboard replacements...about 10 or so. I have not been able to simply "To reassemble your device, follow these instructions in reverse order." I always have to separate the screen from the mid frame in order to plug the 2 top ribbon cables back to the motherboard. I can't figure out a way to get the ribbon cables plugged back in without doing so. This screen separation process is very tedious, long, and stressful as it could crack the AMOLED screen if you're not careful. If someone can show me exactly how to simply, "To reassemble your device, follow these instructions in reverse order" it'll make it a lot easier for me. Thanks.
Agreed. That screen was by far the most difficult screen ive ever removed from a phone. It would be SOOO much easier if it were broken and you didn't care.
As for getting the flex cables to snap back in; You basically need to add about a quarter millimeter thickness to the back of the foam behind the amoled display and s-pen flex cable connectors. I apply a strip of double sided tape to the foam, the same width and length, but leave the tape's protective paper in tact so you are not taping the connectors to the back of the display. This will move the connector up "just" enough to be able to snap it into the socket. You'll want to press firmly against the screen and logic board at each connector point, but don't force it. The connectors for the rear camera and usb flex won't need extra tape, but connect in the same manner.
Hey guys,for those of you that couldn`t reassemble the phone after taking the display out and in this way you had to separate the screen from the mid frame i have an advice! In this video (after 10 min or so you can see a good tip if you replace your display with a new one).As in this video you can use a memory card when you try to get the conector back in it s place.Usualy if you center the connector properly it will work for sure in almost all the time!
As already pointed before,If you cannot get it done this way there is the second strategy.I manage to reconnect that little devil so simple that i thought it`s a joke.All you need is a tiny piece of adhesive tape(not necessary double adhesive,but it doesn`t matter because you will use only one part and the other i think it`s better to not unpeel it ).I used one from Bison(double tape fix),cheap and practical,check on google for it.So you need 2-3 mm of this tape,cut it in a small band and adhere it under the connector spongy thing.In this way the connector will be raised a little and of course will fit better in it`s place when you press the motherboard(specially with a card inserted as in that vid up ).Good luck!

I swapped my motherboard but now the spen doesn't work. Did I miss a connection? I didn't think so but maybe there is a single connection that would cause just the pen to stop working?

no your files are gone unless you are able to connect the old motherboard while still in phone and the phone is able to go in to download mode by pressing volume up, home button and power button at same time while phone is off for a couple of seconds. then you would be able to get the files off

Anyone else replace one of these and get a "no sim card found" error? Everything else on the new board works, including WIFI. It also mentions that the sim card is locked. I have a SM-N910P from Sprint, and ordered a new board, which says that same thing, but I wasn't sure if unlocking the SIM card would do anything or not. All I can find online is unlocking for GSM and AT&T and such, but nothing on CDMA and Sprint.

Anyone know about how the imei is supposed to work after? I got mine from samsungparts.com which is the authorized samsung parts distribtor, but after install the about device says imei "uknown"

My Samsung N910 Note 4 fell into salt water and the service center folks have indicated that the mother board as well as the LCD panel needs to be changed. This is as-good-as-buying a new phone. I can get the LCD replaced at a reasonable cost [when compared to Samsung Service Center]. The mother board is not available when I checked around. Where can I buy a N910 Note 4 mother board. Thanks.

The situation is: One fine evening my Note 4 started getting hanged / busy… Showing busy blue notification light, I restarted it. It worked for a few hours, but ultimately became dead. One repair guy told me that it’s Motherboard issue, however, another said it’s the display which is not working. However both of them failed to make it work again!

If your phone is charging, the charging LED will be lit. If not, start there, could be charging port, cable, wall brick, or motherboard. If it's charging, and your phone vibrates when you power it on, but nothing at all happens on the display, it's most likely either the screen or the power connector to the screen has gone bad, which could be screen or motherboard. If it is charging but doesn't vibrate when you try to power it on, it’s most likely the motherboard.
Other than that, unless you have a variety of electronics tools at your disposal like a breadboard, multimeter, and circuitry components, there's not really any way I know of to test the screen without removing it from the phone and hooking it up to something else.
It also could just as easily be that the connection came unplugged and it's just a matter of reinserting a flex cable on the motherboard.

Hatte gerade geschrieben, dass ich erfolgreich die Hauptplatine getauscht hatte. Ich stelle fest, das der S-Pen nicht funktioniert. Es wird registriert, dass ich den Pen entnehme. Die Soft-Tasten für Zurück und geöffnete Programme lassen sich mit dem Pen betätigen. Nur auf dem Bildschirm zeigt der S-Pen keine Funktion!
@Selda: Das schwierigste ist, den Mittelrahmen abzubekommen. Man muss dabei tierisch aufpassen, dass man nicht die Displayscheibe verzieht. Die ist dann schnell kaputt. Das Mainbord hatte ich bei AliExpress bestellt, kam aus China. Das Teil ist nicht in Ordnung. Nach dem Umbau gabs keib GPS. Das Handy findet keine Satelliten. Ich hatte probeweise das alte Board mal zurückgebaut. Da funktionierte GPS einwandfrei. Der Grund, weshalb ich diese Aktion überhaupt gemacht hatte, meine Anzeige verschob sich immer auf der Hälfte des Displays. Manchmal war die eine Hälfte weg. Laut Samsung Werkstatt ist das Mainboard defekt, Kosten ca. 350 €… Nun ist das Ersatz-Board wieder drin ohne GPS. Dieses Telefon wird eh nicht mehr gebraucht. Ich werde vielleicht nochmal ein Board dort kaufen. Kostet 43 €. Es ist es nicht wert, zu reklamieren. Dauert erstens ewig, und die Rücksendung kostet auch gut Geld… Außerdem hat diese ganze Aktion die S-Pen-Funktionalität gekostet. Der geht nun bei beiden Boards nicht mehr…
Hallo und Glückwunsch an alle, die sich daran gewagt haben…
mein Note4 sagt nach einigen Macken, die ich eigentlich behoben glaubte (mit der APP Wake Lock von darken) nach einem Firmwareupdate keinen Piep mehr… man tippt hier auch auf ein kaputtes Mainboard. Eine Reparatur vom Profi für über 300 Euro ist mir zu viel für das Gerät. Bevor ich es aber komplett in die Tonne haue, würde ich noch einen 2stelligen Betrag investieren und es selber probieren. Benötige ich denn außer einem passenden Mainboard noch andere Teile?… die Antennenkabel, die mit der Pinzette entfernt werden zum Beispiel, können die beim Zusammenbau wieder verwendet werden? Sorry, sollte die Frage dumm sein…. ich bin eigentlich geschickt aber an sowas habe ich mich noch nie rangetraut…fände es nur sehr schade um das Note4, wenn ich es nicht einmal versuchen würde- war immer super zufrieden damit. Und bei Aliexpress gibt es ja zig Angebote zu “kleinen” Preisen.

Trying to fix my “brickbug” one now. Yes the screen is a complete PITA.
Maybe a hint though, pushing on the battery compartment can break the screen and this is a known issue with the S6 and its
puffy battery of doom (tm) TWO bad units here.
Incidentally it does appear that the thermal compound does not work as well over time so worth doing a repaste at least
in principle: ripping it out and replacing with nice fresh pad may be viable.
Obviously do not use 3mm thick stuff as this will damage it, those clearances are very small.
I did this fix on an S3 once and it did run better afterwards though eventually died due to a battery issue.

No success for me. I put in a new motherboard (of the same type I had before), but then it did not recognize home, menu and back buttons (while the S Pen and also the cameras worked, and it also charged). And after taking it apart again, I apparently managed to damage the display (only half of it shows the screen since) , so I give up on that one.
I try an n910w8 and a n910t and it did work cause the cameras are same module for both also if you read carefully the parts you will see it
I am very thankful for this guide and to the author Mr. Geoff Wacker. I would never attempted to replace the motherboard without this guide. I do wish I had known about the copper sheet that covers the back of the display. I tore mine, but was able to smooth it back out and repair it. This was my first phone repair and I was lucky to remove the display without breaking it or damaging any of the other parts. Thanks again for the guide you provided. This is my original SM-N910V and I got it when they first came out, so it must be about 5 years old now. I hope the reassembly goes as good as the disassembly.

Can we connect Headphone jack or Heart rate sensor or to say IR blaster from such old phones to newer phones? I understand the panel doesn’t have cut-outs and space need to be cut which can’t happen easily but just a thought if it can be done?
