    • To begin, make sure you have an IBM ThinkPad G40. Identify your model by the status light bar.

    • Turn over the laptop. Press the latch to remove the battery.

    • Remove the screw on the bottom next to the hard drive. It is under the palmrest on the side opposite the battery.

    • Now pull strongly but gently without shaking on the hard drive, it's next to the audio jacks. Don't yank out the audio jacks.

    • Open your computer's latch.

  5. Replace IBM ThinkPad G40 Hard Drive, Finished!: paso 5, imagen 1 de 1
    • Now you're complete with it. Put a new hard drive (or ssd) inside if desired, or put back in the old hd.

You may find a replacement HDD bay cover on the internet by searching the following terms : IBM ThinkPad G40 hard drive cover

The hard drive on this laptop is a very old hard drive using an old connector called IDE.

IDE hard drives are not common nowadays, but you can find replacement SSD by searching the following terms on the internet : 2.5" IDE SSD
