This guide is for those looking to replace their brake lever assembly on a mountain bike. It is a fairly simple task that does not require much prior bike knowledge. It only requires a 5mm Allen key, the lever assembly, isopropyl alcohol, and the bike.

Remove the grip from the handle.
Do this by twisting and pulling the grip until it slides off.

Using a 5mm allen key, loosen the lever assembly from the handle.
Slide the assembly off of the handle.

Take your new lever assembly and slide it onto the handle; leave it loose.

Pour a light amount of isopropyl alcohol through your grip and slide it back onto the handle.

Line up your lever assembly back into place.

Install the brake cable into the lever housing.
Take the brake cable and feed it into the lever pull.

Use the barrel adjuster to tighten the cable intro place.
