Use this guide to diagnose and repair a Frigidaire-built gas oven that will not heat. You will verify gas supply, test the stovetop and broiler, replace a failed igniter with either an OEM or lower-cost universal unit, check the safety valve, measure igniter amperage, and button everything up. The work needs only common hand tools, a multimeter, and basic DIY confidence.

-
Paso 1 Verify gas supply to appliance
-
Ensure other gas appliances in the home operate normally to confirm overall supply.
-
-
Paso 3 Test broiler function
-
Set the control to broil and observe whether the upper igniter glows and the broiler heats.
-
-
Paso 4 Inspect the oven igniter for glow
-
Select bake and look through the lower oven vents for a bright orange glow from the igniter.
-
-
Paso 5 Remove the oven door
-
Pull the hinge locking tabs toward the door with a screwdriver on both sides.
-
Raise the door slightly, lift it up, and remove it from the stove chassis.
-
-
Paso 6 Take out the oven floor panel
-
Loosen the two rear thumb screws inside the oven cavity by hand or with a slotted screwdriver if rusted.
-
Lift the floor panel up, pull it back, and slide it out over the front lip.
-
-
Paso 7 Expose and unfasten the igniter
-
Remove the two screws on the flame spreader baffle and lift the sheet metal off the burner.
-
Locate the igniter on the burner bar and remove its two mounting screws from the right side.
-
-
Paso 8 Remove the burner bar for easier access
-
Remove the back-wall screw and the front screw securing the burner bar to the oven.
-
Lift the bar up and pull it forward to free it from the orifice.
-
-
Paso 9 Disconnect the original igniter harness
-
Trace the igniter wires to their connector or splice point behind the cavity.
-
Unplug or cut the wires, leaving enough length on the harness for splicing.
-
-
Paso 10 Mount the replacement igniter on the burner bar
-
Align the new igniter with the burner bracket and secure it with the two screws.
-
-
Paso 11 Splice the igniter wiring
-
Strip a small section of insulation from both old harness leads and the new igniter leads.
-
Twist matching wires together and secure each joint with a ceramic wire nut rated for high heat.
-
-
Paso 12 Reinstall the burner bar and route wiring
-
Position the burner bar over the orifice, slide it fully rearward, and reinstall its front and rear screws.
-
-
Paso 13 Power test the new igniter
-
Reconnect power and set bake to 350 °F to observe the new igniter.
-
A healthy igniter reaches bright cherry-red in about 90 seconds.
-
-
Paso 15 Check oven safety valve continuity
-
With power off, pull one spade from the bake side of the safety valve under the oven.
-
Set the multimeter to resistance and probe both valve terminals.
-
Continuity or low ohms means the valve is good; OL or no reading indicates a failed valve.
-
-
Paso 16 Measure igniter amperage draw
-
Clamp an amp-capable meter around a single igniter lead before restoring power.
-
Start bake mode and record the peak current reading from a safe distance.
-
Normal draw is 3.0–3.6 A; below 2.6 A means the igniter is weak even if it glows.
-
-
Paso 17 Refit the oven floor and secure screws
-
Hook the rear tabs of the flame spreader into the back slots and lower it onto the front ledge.
-
Tighten the two front screws and the rear thumb screws to secure the panel.
-
-
Paso 18 Reinstall the oven door and drawer
-
Insert the door hinges into the chassis slots and lower the door open.
-
Push both hinge latches toward the oven to lock them.
-
Slide the warming drawer onto its rails until it seats fully.
-
With the igniter glowing, flame present, and panels reinstalled, the bake function of your Frigidaire range is restored. Monitor ignition time in the first few cycles and keep wires clear of heat sources to extend igniter life.
