How to Remove a Label From a Glass Jar

This guide will show you how to remove a label from a glass jar for reuse. Instead of purchasing a new glass jar, you can repurpose glass jars from around the house as storage containers, vases, or home decor.

CAUTION: This guide involves boiling water.

Boil enough water to fill both glass jars.
Pour the boiling water into the smaller jar using a tea kettle.
The hot water will heat up the glass and melt the adhesive from the inside.

Place the lid onto the jar and tighten.
This step is optional if the larger container in Step 3 has a lid.

Place the jar into a larger glass container.

Pour hot water into the larger jar until the water level is above the label.

Add a few drops of dish soap into the larger jar.
This helps to clean up residue from the label.

Let the container sit for 10 to 15 minutes or until completely cooled.
