Introducción

If your computer is starting to slow down, freeze frequently, or display the blue screen of death then your hard drive may be failing. If your hard drive hasn't completely crashed yet then be sure to backup your precious data BEFORE replacing your hard drive.

  1. Remove the following Phillips #0 screws from the lower case:

    • Six 9 mm screws

    • Four 11 mm screws

  2. Use the plastic opening tool to separate the top cover from the laptop.

    • Start by prying on the front of the laptop.

    • Continue prying around the cover and end just under the screen to release the front cover.

    • Do not fully remove the top cover, it is attached by two ribbon cables that will be disconnected in the following steps.

  3. To release the ZIF latch, flip up the small white tab.

    • Pull the white ribbon cable out of the socket to disconnect it.

  6. Release the ribbon cables using the plastic opening tool to flip the gray tab on the white connector. Gently slide ribbon cable out while gray tab is flipped up. If glued, go ahead and peel ribbon from hard drive.

  7. Unscrew the one black 5mm screw from USB and headphone port using a #0 Phillips screw driver. Remove USB and headphone port using the plastic opening tool.
    • Unscrew the one black 5mm screw from USB and headphone port using a #0 Phillips screw driver.

    • Remove USB and headphone port using the plastic opening tool.

  8. Unscrew the two black 5mm screws located in each corner of the hard drive using a #0 Phillips screw driver. Lift hard drive out of device.
    • Unscrew the two black 5mm screws located in each corner of the hard drive using a #0 Phillips screw driver.

    • Lift hard drive out of device.

  9. Disconnect power connector with a plastic opening tool. Unscrew one black 5mm screw from hard drive controller PCB using a #0 Phillips screwdriver. Remove hard drive controller.
    • Disconnect power connector with a plastic opening tool.

    • Unscrew one black 5mm screw from hard drive controller PCB using a #0 Phillips screwdriver.

    • Remove hard drive controller.

  10. Unscrew the four black 3mm screws from hard drive enclosure using a #0 Phillips screwdriver. Remove case from hard drive. Peel the three foam contact strips up slowly to ensure foam doesn't tear.
    • Unscrew the four black 3mm screws from hard drive enclosure using a #0 Phillips screwdriver.

    • Remove case from hard drive.

    • Peel the three foam contact strips up slowly to ensure foam doesn't tear.

hi. i have the same laptop. the laptop bsod on me after i used it for a good 6 months. suddenly, when i start the laptop, it always boots me to the bios, the hard drive is change because i thought it is the problem (i just followed the solutions online which is a lot regarding the issue). my suspection is the hard drive connector to the motherboard pcb. is there any way i can replace with or where can i buy replacements for this same part? please help i really need the laptop for my school needs, and sorry for the bad english

I had the same problem. Sorry but its also too expensive to repair and the repair doesnt solve problem %100

Im having the same issue. My HDD fails to start when my hand is over the hdd connector (just slight pressure). Any solutions?

This is caused by the connection socket on the PCB between the little PCB that plugs into the HDD and the motherboard. Turns out that the great amount of flex in the (crappy) plastic body of these laptops causes too much strain on the socket (opening and closing the screen) and eventually the connector breaks. I had to order a replacement PCB on Ali-express.

Great guide, thanks a lot. One thing to note, I found it wasn't necessary to remove the whole hard drive controller just to replace the HD. I was able to just remove the audio port board and then slide the drive away from the controller.
