Apple AirPort Extreme Model A1143 Wi-Fi Antenna Replacement

Qué necesitas

  1. Apple AirPort Extreme Model A1143 Wi-Fi Antenna Replacement, Back Pad: paso 1, imagen 1 de 1
    • The back pad is held in with glue so use caution when removing to prevent tearing. Low heat may be used to help remove the pad.

    • Slowly peel off the rubber pad on the bottom of the device. Start from one corner and peel with your fingers. Use heat if necessary until pad is completely removed.

This is where you would use the opening tool. It’s the perfect tool to lift the rubber base around the metal lip and then pull with your fingers.

    • After removing the rubber pad, unscrew the five 5mm phillips #00 screws in the holes of the back cover.

  3. Apple AirPort Extreme Model A1143 Wi-Fi Antenna Replacement: paso 3, imagen 1 de 1
    • Lift up the back case from the perforated edge to remove it.

  4. Apple AirPort Extreme Model A1143 Wi-Fi Antenna Replacement, Remove from Case: paso 4, imagen 1 de 1
    • Remove logic board and metal casing from outer case by prying from one side using a spudger.

I have found it easier to lift from the side with the Ethernet ports. When putting back together watch that the three WI-FI antennas don’t get snagged against the case as your putting back.

Take care to remove the small pieces of metallic tape between the case and the spring copper comb earthing strips in the case.

If you do not, it is a real fiddle to put them back in place latter (the tape will pull them out of the case ground steps)

    Robert.

PS: I believe the onboard power converter is bust: the board sings when power turned on. So to trash it goes.

(external power supply is good), swapped with another to test).

    Sad…

  5. Apple AirPort Extreme Model A1143 Wi-Fi Antenna Replacement, Detach Logic Board From Case: paso 5, imagen 1 de 1
    • Unhook the wires connecting the logic board to the metal casing by grabbing and pulling up on each connection with tweezers.

  6. Apple AirPort Extreme Model A1143 Wi-Fi Antenna Replacement, Pull Back Tabs: paso 6, imagen 1 de 1
    • Carefully push back the three metal tabs with your fingers on the sides of metal case.

  7. Apple AirPort Extreme Model A1143 Wi-Fi Antenna Replacement, Remove Metal case: paso 7, imagen 1 de 1
    • Carefully pull the metal case away from the logic board.

  8. Apple AirPort Extreme Model A1143 Wi-Fi Antenna Replacement, Wi-Fi Antenna: paso 8, imagen 1 de 1
    • Unscrew the 5mm #00 screws from each of the three antennas located on the sides of the metal casing.

Thanks for the guide.

Pulled mine apart to examine the battery inside. It measured above 3.1 volts - even though it has been in use since June 2008 (about 9 years).

Holes will be punched for access to the 5 screws so the rubber pad does not have to be removed if it needs to be opened in the future.

I may see about buying a new Ac adapter to power this Airport Extreme since that is probably why the status light on the front did not illuminate.

Completed this. Didnt use apple replacement antennas. Added 3 U.FL Mini PCI to RP-SMA Pigtails, drilled 3 holes and mounted 3 +9db antennas. My wifi finally reaches my garage
