Trackpad replacement MBP 17" 3.06GHZ core 2 duo

My track pad is not working very well sometimes it will if I hit it really hard it will work but the touch feature works but not the click so no click and drag etc.

My understanding is that to replace it is the whole case is there a chance its just the screws loose?

I don't think a loose screw is the problem, however you can replace just the track pad.

If this answer is acceptable please remember to return and mark it.

There is a chance it is just the adjustment screw for the trackpad. Actually it sounds like it is EXACTLY the adjustment screw for the trackpad.

Do a search online for this repair. you need a special screw driver, but it totally fixable.

My trackpad is from a 2009 17" MBP. If I need a replacement Is the replacement the same as an early 2011? Mine is very hard to press and it only works in the lower right hand corner and I have to press very hard to get it to work.

@Ellen - You really should post your own question here as your system & problem is different. I suspect your battery has swelled causing pressure from the inside against the trackpad. I would start there.
