Im buying a fan controller but will it work?

Hello,

Im buying a 4 Chanel fan controller for my xbox 360 but it is made to work with a computer.

Block Image

The way this touch display gets its power is from a molex connecter from the computers power supply but the Xbox 360 does not have this.

I looked around for some type of adapter with no success i wondered can you maybe cut into the power cable and splice a AC plug with a cut end and hook them together so the screen would be powered by a wall plug instead of having to plug into the mother board. Also if cutting into the power cables is the only way this would work, would it affect the ports that the fans and heat probes plug into? Please help I would love to get my Xbox back up and running again. Thanks!

Don't use your AC plug. Since the controller is meant to be plugged into the PC power supply, which only carries 5V DC and 12V DC over the molex connector, it would surely be destroyed by the AC power. You would have to try to find that voltage on the XBox. I know it does have it, and I am currently looking at the schematic for a "possible" hookup. Also, you did not tell us what is wrong with your XBox and the fan controller may not "get my Xbox back up and running again" depending on what is wrong with it.

Just posted an image about the pinout of the plug to your XBox. You may consider to tap into that for your fan controller.

Here is how to connect the Touch2000 to the motherboard.

Here you can see that it needs 5Volts as well as 12volts. From the way I read it, it controls your fans, by plugging your system fans into the Touch2000 and max power per fan channel is 6 Watts (0.5A@12V). That means you would also have to make sure that the fan of your XBox would fit those connectors. I am not saying it is not possible, but will require a lot of headwork before doing it. A great mod opportunity :-)

Here you can see the voltage on the Molex connector. They are the same colors as the ones on the connector from your Aerocool. With the power points shown on the XBox you could now make a connection to the power connector. It does show you where to connect the 12V, 5V, and ground.

Thank you for your answer and also there is nothing wrong with the Xbox it is just torn apart because i got a new case but i dont want to put it back together just to take it back apart. But were could i find the voltage on the Xbox to hook up to and how would I tie them together? Also in your picture there is a purple or red square would i just use that since it is 5 volts,But how would i hook the display cable to that? Also i feel a little stupid asking this but what is a ATX PSU?

Sorry for the confusion. The lower part of the images shows a power supply from a PC and is not directly related to your question. The part to concentrate is the upper part of the pictures. Make sure that your controller is 5 volt and not 12volt. Any chance you could tell us more about the connector from the controller? If it gets power from the molex connector of a PC, it it possible that it needs 5 and 12 volts

Well i can post a link to were i am looking at it.I cant find anything about how many volts it is allthough it does say that it is 6w per-channel.

Mabey you can find out something about how many volts it takes? But i would imagine it would be more than six because it has to also run 4 12v fans.well thats another quistion, would there be cable that comes off the controller that goes to the mother board to power the fans?

Looking closer at the image in your question, it looks like the Molex supplies 12V and 5V to the controller. There seems to be another connector that, even so it's hard to see, looks like a motherboard fan connector. I attached another image to the original answer. It actually shows how to connect the Aerocool.

Thank you for you help but how would I connect the touch 2000 to the Xbox 20 the Xbox is powering the Aerocool,In your picture of the plug on the Xbox 360 console the yellow is 12 volts and above that is a red connecter that is 5 volts how would i the the Areocool into that power?

I don't understand why you want to do this but whatever

This tutorial shows you 5v and 12v power sources on the Xbox without splicing into the DVD drives power.

If you want your xbox cooler I'd just recommend the 12v fan mod, it's loud but it definitely keeps it cool.

well the Xbox i have is water cooled and in a custom Plexiglas case, there are a total of 5 fans around the case of the Xbox but i only want 4 of them to be controlled because one of them is on the radiator. But anayway thanks for your link that helps a lot.

Wow that really is cool.. surely buying a better mobo is a cheaper solution?

well as a response to your link the one picture is of the DVD drive power cable would i just cut into them cables in the spots that are shown. But i still need to no what cables on the Areocool to splice for power?
