Replaced Front Screen - Waiting on Parts - Won't Power On

Hello All -

I've got an iPad 2 Wifi 32gb.

A couple of days ago, I dropped it and the front glass shattered. Fortunatly, the LCD and touch still worked and seemed untouched.

I ordered a new screen from eTechParts.com and received it today. I used a hair dryer and tiny piece by piece removed the glass from the unit.

Before I lifted the LCD out (with a lof of the glass still on it, I hit the power button and thfe device showed the lockscreen - LCD still seeminlgly undamamaged.

I removed the 4 screws, then LCD panel gently, then also gently removed the LCD cable and touch cove3r ribbon cable. Then, I attached the new ribbon cable (already attched to the new front screen) and then the LCD again. I also put 3 of the 4 screws back in. (Lost one of them :()

I have not completely put it back together as I am waiting on the adhesive that eTechParts forgot to send. I hit the power button, but nothing happened!

I verified the cables were back in securely, but still nogo. Does the iPad have to be completely assembled for it to power on? Other than the screen and the missing screw for the LCD, the only other thing not touching is the home button assembly to the mainboard as it's attached to the glass. I tried holding it on there and think I got it touching, but still nogo.

Any suggestions? Thanks!

You could have torn the power flex cable when taking the damaged screen off. It is located at the top right corner of the iPad. Happened to me before :-(. I replaced the cable myself. There is a guide on this site to replace...good luck!

Change the screen on my ipad2. When i was taking it out . One of the tiny locks thatyou push down after you plug it in broke off will that cause it not to turn on.

The iPad does not like you turning it on or off, whilst disconnecting any of it's cables....

TRY NOT TO TURN IT ON OR OFF WHILST DOING THIS REPAIR...

If this does happen to you, as it happened to me, all you need to do is press the power button with the home button for 7 or so seconds for it to hard reset. (which may be a bit tricky if you have the digitizer off with a hanging home button, but you will figure how to do it after a few tries...

Also if there is no pic but is sound then you need to disconnect and connect the LCD and or digitizer connectors in properly pushed all the way in, along with the control board to logic board cable tab in a closed position or it won't function, even if it's connected in....

This is an old thread, but I thought I would add...

On my differential diagnosis here the likelihood of a power flex tear would be pretty low.

If you were trying to burn out the backlight fuse to perform a teaching demonstration of how ipads lose their backlight----this would be exactly how you would do it. Pull the LCD flex while the iPad is not only on, but the LCD is lit.

Hopefully, the fuse isn't burned and the iPad just needs a hard reset (described above---power button plus home button together for 10 seconds).

If that doesn't solve it, then this is highly likely a backlight failure and you'd need to send it out for backlight repair.

Once you dry fit the components, plug in the dock connector to prompt it to boot--if backlight is okay, then iPad will show a display. If not, then confirm backlight failure by plugging into iTunes---if iTunes sees the device, but the device has no display = backlight.

The ipad should turn on even when the glass is only connected and not put in place. you would be crazy to assemble it without a test. sounds like your power flex cable is broken or the lcd cable...

don't put it back together and hope it will be fine, because it won't work.

hope this could help

You either torn the power cable or you just have to perform a hard reset by holding power and home button until you see apple logo.

Also try to plug usb cable to see if it powers on.

If you take a picture of top right side of you iPad I will be able to tell you if you torn the cable.
