Hello,

I found this on wikipedia:

" The mouse acceleration, in the majority of mouse software, refers to the setting allowing the user to modify the cursor acceleration: the change in speed of the cursor over time while the mouse movement is constant.

For simple software, when the mouse starts to move, the software will count the number of "counts" received from the mouse and will move the cursor across the screen by that number of pixels (or multiplied by a rate factor, typically less than 1). The cursor will move slowly on the screen, having a good precision. When the movement of the mouse passes the value set for "threshold", the software will start to move the cursor more quickly, with a greater rate factor. Usually, the user can set the value of the second rate factor by changing the "acceleration" setting."

The full post can be found here.

Hope this helps :)

A good way to see mouse acceleration is to move the pointer to one edge of the screen and place you mouse on the edge of the mouse mat. Drag the mouse across the mat slowly. The mouse will move across the screen slowly. Do the same again but this time jerk the mouse. The pointer will move quickly across the screen. This is mouse acceleration in action. It's how fast the mouse moves in relation to how fast your mouse is moving over time. So mouse move slow... Pointer move slow. Mouse move fast... Pointer accelerates forward! Hope this helps, and if it did please accept my answer :)

Think of it as the viewing sensitivity in a game. Increase the acceleration, you increase the sensitivity of your mouse to get from point "a" to point "b" on your computer, question is How much acceleration can you handle?

Unfortunately I would disagree with you there. Sensitivity is related to the CPI of the mouse (counts per inch) which is how many steps it reads in one inch. Sometimes CPI is incorrectly referred to as DPI. So when you adjust the CPI of your mouse you adjust the sensitivity which in turn makes the mouse more reactive and faster. You can then further increase your speed by adjusting it in windows (or osx).

However, mouse acceleration is not the speed of the mouse in general, but how quickly the mouse goes over time and is directly related to how fast you move your mouse and not the sensitivity. I find a good way to see mouse acceleration in action is to move you mouse to the edge of the screen and pick your mouse up, move it the edge of your mat, and move it slowly across the mouse mat. Make note of where the pointer is. Then move the pointer to the edge again an make a small quick and short jerk of the mouse. The pointer will jump across the screen. This is mouse acceleration.

Oh wow, I never noticed that! I learn something new everyday, thanks

The animal mouse would be that it is speeding up.

It’s stupid and useless. It makes your mouse move further than how far you originally moved it. The only people that really use it are retards and people who don’t know what it means.

Every Function has its use. The Acceleration to to prevent the constant speed from inhibiting your ability to react faster depending on needs. This becomes apparent for example when you need to click something small and your movement must be precise. on the other hand, if you play FPS games, a little more acceleration makes for faster reflexes and doesn't bottleneck the rate at which you can turn your character to engage.

That being said, I prefer lower acceleration/Higher Accelerant Threshold.
