2 MacBooks died same day. Different chargers.

Today I left my 2015 15" MacBook Pro on and charging while I went to run errands. When I came back it was off. I tried to turn it on again and nothing. Absolutely no life. The charging cable is green indicating a full battery.

I had a meeting scheduled so I grabbed my backup 2014 13" MacBook Pro, tried to turn it on and it showed the low battery screen. I plugged it into a different charger, went to investigate my other MacBook. About 15 minutes later I came back for my meeting, but now the 13" MacBook had the same problem. Absolutely no sign of life. It wouldn't even show the the low battery like it did 15 minutes before.

So this is a huge mystery for me. Both died within a couple hours of each other. Each had its own charger. Both have the same problem: no booting. No fans, no noises, no lights, nothing. Absolutely dead.

Tried going to a local repair shop, they said 5 days to even look at it but they did try their own charger and that also didn't work. Any suggestions of opening it up to at least try to trouble shoot? I tried disconnecting the battery and letting it sit for a while, but it didn't help.

More importantly I am scared that even if I do fix it, whatever killed them will kill again.

Review this Apple T/N: Apple Portables: Troubleshooting MagSafe adapters Many problems can be due to a bad MagSafe chargers or dirty/broken MagSafe connectors.

While two different systems each with their own charger both failing is rare. I've had days when 8 people would line up with dead systems where I had worked servicing the in-house gear.

You may want to look at your buildings power a hot ground can really mess things up!

Go to the local hardware store to get a cheap outlet tester for starters it should tell you if the outlet is wired correctly and if ground pin is active. You'll need a proper VDM and make your way to the breaker panel as well as locate a cold water pipe or ground point to see if the electrical panel is not hot to ground. You do want to be careful here as if it is you could get zapped! Maybe best to call in an electrician if you don't feel comfortable doing this. He should be able to test this as well as check the voltage of your service.

In any case you should download this great app: CoconutBattery it will help you in making sure your batteries, charger & charging logic are in good shape.

Do make sure you did get real MagSafe chargers if you need to replace them. There are quite a few fakes out there now as Apple is no longer stopping them Lacking safety features, cheap MacBook chargers create big sparks & Counterfeit MacBook charger teardown: convincing outside but dangerous inside

We ended up putting in UPS's for one office as the power was so bad. Do make sure you are using good quality surge suppressors at least.
