Battery discharge even when phone is turned off.

Hi

I bought two iphone 7 as second hand and i find the following trouble: quick battery discharge (half a day autonomy). I thought that both batteries were dead but the result with battery life was a 75% capacity score.

Of course , complete restore as new phone as been done with last ios and battery drain is still present. But what is the most surprising is that the battery discharge occurs also when the phones are switch off. And not a few percent drop around 40% drop for twelve around with the phone completely off. A test with apple staff mentioned that battery was quite good.

And this with 2 different phones (seems ok inside, water indicators are clean) and no physical damage except some scratch on screen. Any help ?

By the way i have tested ios 11.3 to get the new tools related to battery but i didn’t find it...

After a second restore in DFU mode and a battery change, trouble seems reduced, always some discharge even turn off but at a rate that is similar to a normal usage.

Some semiconductors need applied voltage to retain memory state. This is a question for the design engineers. Are there such semiconductors inside my iPhone 8+? This could be a design choice to reduce price.

A battery that only has 75% design capacity, or health, depending on which utility you used, is actually in bad condition. I would expect that the battery would last about half as long a new battery. In my shop, I warranty my batteries to 80% capacity, anything less is unacceptable.

I would try a new battery to see if that solves the problem.

I have the same problem. New battery has been installed, everything that can be turned off has been done. I have even deleted all games incase that was the issue. Battery is draining at a rate of 45%. This always happens overnight, during the day is doesn’t seem as drastic. Please help

This iPhone is a piece of crap. Can’t even compare this iPhone crap to an old Samsung phone. They want you to buy a new one even it’s only couple years old.

I have the same issue with my iPhone 7 plus. I was working perfectly fine for several years, but once I did the factory reset and made it ready for the new owner I left it off for several days. Then I turned it on, but nothing happened (by the way, the battery health was 84%).

I disconnected battery and charged it from the external power source and connected to the phone again - the phone started and worked ok, but drained the battery too fast. I turned it off and the battery was flat over night.

Next experiments were putting to DSF, installing OS15,2, but without any luck except the battery healths increased to 93%.

Finally, charged the battery by the phone to ~80% (it didn’t charge further because of draining (I think). Disconnected the battery and measured its voltage it was 4.04V. I left the battery disconnected for 24 hours and measured voltage again ant it was the same - 4.04V.

This means to me that it is not the battery issue, but something on the circuit board is draining the battery and it looks like some Capacitor(s) started leaking to the ground near the battery.

I think Nikolia is right. I have this same issue with an IPhone 5 I rarely use (obviously). The phone would drain the charged battery in about two weeks even when turned off and unused. Since you can have self-drain just through the lith battery itself, I replaced this battery. But the issue hasn’t disappeared even with the replacement. If you have this issue, think twice about going to the trouble of replacing the battery. You may be better off getting another phone. As stated above- if you plan on replacing the battery I suggest pulling the old one out of the phone after it is charged. Read the voltage on it and then read it again in a week. There shouldn’t be a large difference in the readings. If there isn’t, it isn’t the battery - it’s your phone.

Same problem. The battery is at 91% health, but if I want to store the phone with the battery at 80% charged and let’s say turn it on after 1 weak, it’s completely drained.
