My touchpad settings completely disappeared, touchpad not working

When my laptop (Asus UX360UAK) went to sleep, the touchpad used to stop working, but restarting the laptop would work. But today, it's just stopped working completely.

There's no touchpad settings anywhere on my laptop, not in device manager or anywhere else and Asus Smart Gesture installation always fails. There's a 'disable touchpad' option (fn + f9), but it doesn't respond at all, so I assume that there's no touchpad so disable.

USB mouse is working just fine and so is the fingerprint reader.

Please help, thank you :)

Did you find any solution .?..My asus gl552vw also facing the same problem as yours......

Hi @ munmridul,

If your laptop has Win 10 installed, did you try the Chosen Solution below?

I have been experiencing the same issue. I have TWO laptops Asus Notebook UX306U. Both started to have the issue mid-July 2018, I believe after a windows 10 update. I have tried everything from updating all drivers, BIOS, etc. to factory reset, and still the problem persists.

When I close the lid, even if closing the lid is set to "do nothing", when I reopen the lid, the touchpad isn't working anymore and the only thing that will make it work again is rebooting.

The touchpad also stops working randomly after using the computer anywhere between 10 to 60 minutes.

I have talked to Asus tech support, and after trying every suggestions, the only conclusion was to send them my computer so they can have a look because they believe it to be a hardware issue, wich would cost an estimated 600$ for a 1300$ computer. It's insane! You would expect the computer to work perfectly 2 years after purchase.

And it doesn't make sense since I have 2 computers of the exact same model experiencing the same issue.

Hi @ Jonathon Larose,

Try the follwing:

1. Download and save to a known location, the latest ATK package drivers and Smart Gesture drivers from the link in the Chosen Answer below.

2. Uninstall the ATK Package driver and Smart gesture drivers that are already installed in the laptop.

3. restart the laptop and then install the latest ATK Package drivers from the saved location.

4. When they are installed restart the laptop and install the latest Smart Gesture drivers from the saved location.

5. When they have installed restart the laptop and check if the problem is resolved.

Thanks @jayeff, finally I fixed the problem by finding a more up to date driver for the touchpad than the one given by asus.com or tech support. It's ridiculous that the driver they offer is obsolete. They gave me v06 when v25 is out...

Solución Elegida

Hi,

Download and install the latest Asus ATK package and Smart Gesture drivers.

Be sure to install the ATK Package first before the Smart Gesture drivers.

Do not be tempted to update any other drivers at this stage. "If it ain't broke, don't fix it!"

Like kshjalmar, BIOS Settings are perhaps the right Solution:

After 2 Hotfixes from Windows on my brand New AsusVivoBook Flip (14zoll 8GB /256Gb) my Touchpad gave up - No reaction!

Even no Installed Device recognizeable...!!! So if there is no Touchpad at all..

So I tried the "BIOS Check"

(Hold F2 while PC is starting); then under Advanced Settings

the "Internal pointing device" was enabled.((!! Yes it was enabled!)

So i switched the parameter to "disabled" and back to "enabled" and Saved BIOS with "Save and Exit"

WONDER:

Touchpad was running as good as before the Hotfixes...

Dear Mike and where I can find the internal pointing device in Bios? My touchpad does not click nothing is possible to do.

Hi @ Kaspar Karampetian,

Try using the keyboard - Arrow keys and the Enter key to navigate through BIOS

Hey man great answer. Leave the fix inhouse. I hate all these dickheads who want you to download something from a 3rd party or even a 3rd world. I did the F2 thing, did your recommendation . And my little arrow friend returned.

But after my login screen it disappeared again. But I didn't sweat it. Hit the FN and F10 hotkey and came right back. My rig is the ASUS TUF FX705GM Gamer with i7-8750H NVIDIA GeFORCE 1060. I live on it with DCS World. Anyway thanx for the help man. Gotta go flying

Thanks so much . this was so helpful

my screenpad is working now

Great solution. Worked for me! I tried downloading a driver and that did not work. I just followed your BIOS toggle method, and it worked for me! Easy fix. When I first checked the BIOS, it indicated the INternal Pointing Device was Enabled, So I disabled it and restarted. Then I went through the reboot and changed the BIOS the second time to Enabled, and when I restarted my laptop the pointing touchpad worked! You are great!!!!!!!!!! Thanks for your post.

Take a look into BIOS. There is an option for the touch pad (pointing device) to turn it on/off. I do not remember the exact terms, but after some years with a dead touch pad, I googled on “how to enter BIOS in ASUS XXXX , Windows 10 “. I started with downloading new drivers, so I do not know if it is necessary to do that. Anyway, for some reason, after an update in Windows 10, my touch pad was set on “off”, deactivated. Now it works again.

Try to install the drivers for touchpad

You can try slimdriver's driver downloader to get it

However if that does not work then its probably hardware

This asus laptop is a clickpad button, so it supports the asus smart gesture, and you should uninstall and reinstall the asus smart gesture. Here is an article you can follow to fix it: https://windows10skill.com/asus-smart-ge...

Wish this article can help you.

I had just bought a new laptop for college, literally maybe a month ago i bought my asus and the touchpad stopped working. Downloading the atk package and the small gestures didn’t seem to help at first but a little bit after i downloaded them i tried resetting my computer AGAIN and tadaaaaa my touchpad is back. So glad this worked!

Hello. I just brought 2 of the ASUS X441BA for my niece and nephew and experienced the same issues. Uninstalling and reinstalling the ATK and Smart Gesture (There was no smart gesture to uninstall) helped. I was skeptical at first because i actually tries the drives from ASUS but they didn’t work and I didn’t want to pay geek squad all the money to look at it. Also installing Smart Gesture was a little tricky you have to do them in order

Only thing i will add. Once you finish the install, then you need to go back to settings and enable the touchpad. I thought it didn’t work until i decided to search the mouse settings and say the touchpad setting sitting right below.
