My laptop repeatedly shutdowns after I power it on.

when i switch on the laptop after a couple of days then it works fine for about 15-20 minutes, after that it shutdowns. when i again switch on the laptop it again shutdowns during booting within 15-20 seconds, and continues to shut down again and again.. It only works fine for 15-20 minutes, when it switch it on after quite a time.

anyone, please help, as my that laptop has became completely useless.

Alright, first things first. Can you try reseating the RAM DIMMs inside the machine. Also, make sure that the system is hot overheating. Can you hear the fan spinning up? Can you feel hot/ warm air coming out f the vent?

To me it seems like there is unstable power delivery so i would try to reseat the battery in case the connection is loose, also did you have the laptop on charge at the time?

thanks for your replies guys, I will like to add that I had tested switching on the laptop without battery also, then also there was the same problem of quick shutdown , it doesn't seem to be any software problem though.

hi Alex, I will like to add that i can not hear fan noise or can not feel hot air coming out from the vent,..

hi Adam, power connection is not loose, as the shutdowns follow a serious pattern, when I switch on the laptop after quite a time then it runs fine for 15-20 minutes, and after that it shutdowns, again at the same time when i switch on the laptop it shutdowns in about 20 seconds, and again and again in about 20 seconds.. when i leave it for a quite a time then again the same pattern repeats,..20 min-20 sec-20 sec-........

Have you tested your battery and your power cord? They are notorious on Dells for crapping out. Sounds like it not getting enough amps to charge the battery or the battery cells are about done. I would start there and then move to software related diagnostics.

When it cools down , you can you use for 15-20 minutes , the Processor will send signal to Protection circuit to shutdown when it reach the maximum tolerance of over heating, it means you have a defective cooling system, e.g., Fan is stuck-up or full of dust and can't rotate, try cleaning it or replace with new one, I encountered hundreds of cases like this. just give a try. good luck
