Is Patriot Ignite SSD compatible with this A1278?
I had some trouble cloning my HDD to a Patriot Ignite 480GB SSD (PI480GS25SSDR) it simply doesn't boot when used in the hard drive bay. I can boot it from an external enclosure only when the original harddrive is in the internal bay. If I remove the original Harddrive it is unable to boot from the external alone. I am running Yosemite, which should have TRIM support (thought I doubt this is the problem)
I've tried a clone (using carbon copy cloner), a time machine restororation, a clean install of yosemitie, and mavericks(didn't work on my machine after the first reboot the system would freeze and not progress any further, I had to install onto an external drive from another mac and then move to my other computer)/ I even tried a clean install of snow leopard from the original CDs (thinking surely this should work) but again it was unable to complete the installation on my computer.
I did a verbose boot and one of the error messages I saw said "/etc/rc.local" not found (sorry I'm typing from memory) however I went to try and copy from my original HD to my SSD and didn't find the file on either system. I left it overnight to boot, and it did get a bit further but was unable to boot. Any help or suggestions are appreciated. If you need more info let me know.
I've since concluded the drive simply isn't compatible, but maybe there is something I am overlooking. I got the drive on sale for ~$100 dollars and it uses 3D nand so I surmised is a fairly modern drive and should be of good quality as no cheap brand would use 3D printed gates

Thanks for the tips. I did format using a guid partition scheme when I did my 3 clean installs (10.6, Yosemite and mavericks). However they still won't boot. They never even finish installing completely
Also CCC does copy the recovery partition properly just FYI I've never had any issues before except with this specific SSD
I will contact patriot though, that never even crossed my mind, thanks for that

The version of CCC is a factor on it being able to re-build the hidden partition, the older version doesn't.
Even the newest version still has issues (all versions do) -Sorry ;-{
When you have a drive thats not well it can over stress it and if the SATA cable is on the weak side it can corrupt the image. As I deal with systems that run the gamut of health I can't always guess which ones are healthy enough that it won't make a mess. I should also add the corruption may not show up until the file is accessed.
