Very Low Battery, disk mode doesn't work

I recently took the front and back covers off my ipod to paint it. It was fully functional before this. Now, I get the very low battery screen. Holding select and play does absolutely nothing, and holding select and menu temporarily closes the screen. It is not being recognized by my computer, and the battery held a lot of charge a few days ago. Any other recommendations?

Sounds like you've damaged the Battery. Try replacing it with a new one, and then post a video of your sweet new paint job

Just ordered one, let's see if it works!

I just replaced the battery. Now I have the whole loading screen to frowny face to low battery cycle going on...

My computer also doesn't recognize the ipod, the ipod won't go into disk mode or diagnostics mode.

Dangit! Does it charge from the wall?

Sadly, it does not charge from the wall.

I've never worked on one. I'm trying to figure out how easy replacing the dock connector is. If it's soldered on, maybe not so easy for someone who does usually do those repairs...

@treeofeden careful with the battery connector on this model. It has the tendency to break of the board. It is very common and you need to check this based on the very low battery screen

I just posted some pictures of mine, it doesn't appear broken.

That looks good so hopefully @theimedic is spot on with his answer. Glad you checked.

I hope so too @oldturkey03 not a lot of people work on iPod. Trying to erase the Apple ID on one right now...

Also I've broken off battery connectors before. They go right back on with a little solder

@theimedic I really like the 5th and 6th gen iPod but love the sound from my 3rd gen . Problem with the 5th and 6th gen is the battery connector. When you have to move the clip straight up there just is not enough room. If you follow the ifixit guide and use a plastic opening tool, your chances of breaking the connector of, is incredibly high. I always use a small paper clip that I bend into and L-shape. It allows me to hook it under the latch and pull straight up. Yes, relatively straight forward fix unless the traces rip off as well :-)
