Firmware EFI for MacBook Unibody A1342

I need EFI for MacBook Unibody A1342

Was anyone able to get the original 6,1 firmware?

I tried this method and now my MacBook says it's a MBP 5,5. It's a small detail but annoying so I'd like to flash back to the original if I could.

The 15" MacBook Firmware.scap is not working for me unless someone else has come upon a solution.

The link shows all models except the macbook 6.1

We can use Macbook Pro firmware 5.5 but Keyboard and mouse don't work in Sierra. Only in El capitan.

I am having the same trouble. Installed the MBP Firmware because updating from Sierra to high Sierra did not work out. Got an message like "something wrong with the firmware". Resets of PRAM / SMC did not help. So I gave the unsupported update a try. Unfortunately neither trackpad nor keyboard were in working condition since then. Also USB keyboard / mouse do not work.

At startup I am able to control the MacBook (6,1). Also during a Win10 boot or after clean installing 10.11.6.

So the hardware is fine. Just when running (High) Sierra I am stuck at login screen.

I would love to be able to revert to the original EFI version just the steps described above are nothing I would want to do. It seems pretty complicated. Nobody was able to get the original version back?

As a last resort I am now going to install High Sierra with dosdudes High Sierra patcher. Hopefully that works out.

Any help getting the original firmware back one the machine is highly appreciated.

Best regard,

Markus

Review and download the firmware from here: About EFI and SMC firmware updates for Intel-based Mac computers. That should do it.

OK now I see what you did you forced the MacBook system to use a MacBook Pro firmware instead of what it was designed to run with here. You're in a bit of a pickle as Apple never offered an update for this MacBook.

During production Apple updated the PCH logic which altered things enough that Apple needed a second version of the firmware (B02 Vs B00). The older board can't support the larger amount of RAM as the PCH had a design bug within it (Intel fessed up and redid the chip)

The only way I can think of here is to get a programed EFI chip (an Atmel chip if I remember correctly here) and physically swap the chip out. The company that sells these chips hopefully has the needed firmware. You'll need to give them your systems S/N so its burnt into it as well.

Now the fun! You'll need to review the PCH chip version so you get the correct version of EFI code on the chip.

As for running the newer MacOS Sierra I don't think its worth it. Many of the newer OS's use more of the RAM space which in this model is quite limited (4 GB version)! Sure it will boot up and may even let you run a small light weight program or two. But any real work will bog it down as it needs to use the HD for virtual RAM. The 8 GB version of the system is much better! But even still I wouldn't try doing anything CPU intensive.

Lastly, you don't get the benefits of many of the newer features the newer hardware has.

I own Macbook 6,1 and how I fixed the issue.

Download Firmware Update 1.7 http://support.apple.com/downloads/MacBo...

MacBookPro5,5 the same hardware MacBook6,1, to extract MBP55_00AC_03B_LOCKED.scap.

mv MBP55_00AC_03B_LOCKED.scap MB61_00C8_B00_LOCKED.scap

sudo bless -mount / -firmware MB61_00C8_B00_LOCKED.scap --verbose

Shutdown and restart Mac update the firmware and restart automatically.

Attention consequences, the MacBook6,1 as new model identifier MacBookPro5,5 but works well, possible problems could rise with future firmware update.

- 4 GB of RAM on the BOO EFI/PCH

- 8 GB of RAM on the B02 EFI/PCH rev b chip.

Do you think is possible to update the PCH chip of an B00 6.1Macbook? I really need 8gb ram. I am on audio production and it is really anoying having only 4gb.

Garnik, I think you'd be better off getting a newer system (new or used).

This is not a trivial job and I don't think you'll even find the chip given the age of this system.

It would be cheaper to just replace the complete logic board. But then again, you would be limited to what this system is able to support OS & App wise. Which is why I think thats to short sided an answer and why its time to bite the bullet and get a newer i5/i7 based system. In the logic haul you'll be better off.

Dan, not sure you're right about Boot-ROM-Version B00 only supporting 4GB. I got white Unibody MacBook 6,1 and installed 8GB. Here ist my System-Report. It's in German, but I think you get it:

Modellname: MacBook

Modell-Identifizierung: MacBook6,1

Prozessortyp: Intel Core 2 Duo

Prozessorgeschwindigkeit: 2,26 GHz

Anzahl der Prozessoren: 1

Gesamtanzahl der Kerne: 2

L2-Cache: 3 MB

Speicher: 8 GB

Busgeschwindigkeit: 1,07 GHz

Boot-ROM-Version: MB61.00C8.B00

SMC-Version (System): 1.51f53

I have to say I installed 8GB with 1.35V, not 1.50V. Maybe that's the solution.
