Ok, so I looked around, after @rany (thanks, bud) said acetone was great for cleaning flux. So what's the best? Can't seem to find much in a general search, and since last week I thought it was ridic. What're you guys using, and I also forget, you treat it with IP before, or after?
EDIT: Also on the iFixit water damage guide, it says acetone is a no no. Which no is the no?

I use acetone all the time to clean flux from the boards I am microsoldering on. I just use tiny amounts from my dispenser.
We wear gloves and the fumes are sucked by the fume extractor.
It beats IPA for removing that hardened and burnt flux.
Besides the plastics on the boards are all connectors that can be soldered at 200 Celsius. Acetone will not affect them.
I don't use acetone with the screens or housings as some plastics may be affected.
When I need to use IPA, I have the 99% grade and I highly recommmend it over the 85%. I use it for board rework also, for cleaning anything in my shop really that needs a mild organic solvent; and specifically for displacing liquids from boards after USC.
Some people swear by some packaged
"Flux Remover" but I like what I have.

Whatever works for you is best for you but have you ever had issue with the matting lifting from the board or are you using such a small amount it doesnt and how long do you leave it on the board ?
Great. What do you have? I also like your answer about using small amounts, instead dunking the board in it. The IP does a good job. I spray my boards with it. Sometimes a toothbrush, or I have way too many of those wet wipes for glass screen protectors. Sometimes I use those. But I'm always on the lookout for a better way to do things
by the way yes 99% solution is best but 85%wont hurt the board just takes longer to dry out
@jimfixer never been able to lift mask from the boards that I work on: iPhones, iPads, Macs, sammys, laptops. When I want to expose a trace, which happens a lot, I have to use an xacto knife.
If you dab acetone on your board after soldering it evaporates instanteously. If the board is cold, it stays for a second or 2 then pouf! Gone!
I don't dunk boards in acetone, I use IPA for that because an acetone bath would poison the !&&* out of my lungs. Only use acetone in small amounts.
@theimedic what I have is the acetone and IPA. Both the purest grade I can find.

@theimedic - Acetone is quite reactive with plastics which is why you shouldn't use it. Besides, its just not healthy for you either!
85% or better Isopropyl alcohol is the ideal solvent for cutting though flux which is a resin and it won' kill you ;-}

So it's bad?? Just keep using the good IP, and forget about the nail polish remover?

@theimedic lotion is important after dealing with acetone. It dries your skin very bad very quickly. Take my word for it.

@theimedic acetone is great if you actually want to remove the cover material off the motherboard to repair damaged trace that run under it but as for cleaning flux IP alcohol works best and like @danj says 85 % or better . Then pop it in a oven at 200 for a few minutes to evaporate the alcohol

If you are using acetone use latex gloves unless you have an allergy to it then use nitrite .Nitrite is not as protective as latex

I wear nitrile gloves myself. I couldn't stand the latex, as they gave me rashes. I use about a pair or two a day. IPA and acetone dry the hands. Flux gives rashes. Lead is bad. So we all should wear gloves IMO.

And I've never been able to remover mask using acetone. Scratching an xacto, yes. Acetone, no!
