When I turn on my Cuisinart Keurig Brew it starts pushing water through with out being able to set and it does not heat the water. The water will continue to come through even when opened!

- de

I had unheated water all of a sudden...

I drained the water by turning the unit upside down and slapping the bottom of the machine... plugged it back in and pressed the brew button down for 10 seconds....magically it worked...ahh coffee again!!!

- de

Whatever slapping the bottom 6-8 times did my machine works good as new now. Thanks alot. It's coffee time.....

- de

This also worked for me!! Pulled the tank off, rinsed it well, unplugged machine, wiped all surfaces, flipped it upside down over sink and felt ridiculous while I slapped it’s bottom hard several times. Plugged it in and it began heating water up! I’m very excited because I’ve been dealing with this as soon as I woke up with NO coffee

- de

Slapping it worked for me too!! I guess the Keurig likes it rough

@jowomack , Joseph Womack , Depending on your Keurig model, the heating mechanism/shut off may be turning off.

If your coffee is not brewing as hot as it should be, then your heating mechanism has probably shut off. This is may be due to your water pump not functioning properly. When water is not being pumped through the brewer, the heating device shuts off to prevent the coffeemaker from overheating. Similarly, if the water pump is working but not at max efficiency, the coffeemaker signals the heating device to shut off. You will have to possibly reseat your water reservoir.

Found this suggestion from last link below: Try using room temperature water. Hold the brew button down for 5+ seconds and your Keurig should purge the remaining water. If that doesn’t help, kcupbarista.com recommends turning your machine upside down and give it a slap/spanking. Sometimes dried coffee/dust/dirt can get trapped in places that causes problems.

You can also try a thorugh cleaning of the Keurig to see if it solves your issue link #3 below.

There could also be parts failing, heat element, control board, etc., that would require diagnosing.

From the first link below you can possibly click on your model and get more info. and dismantling instruction to check parts/diagnose issue.

I unplugged the unit to clean. I'm thinking it must of reset itself because when I went to try it, it worked properly the first time. The next time it started the water out of spout without heating as soon as I turned the power button on.

- de

@jowomack , If you have given it a good cleaning, maybe try the suggestions on reseting one more time and give it a go. If no luck and still under warranty return for repair/replacement/refund as probable internal fault. Good luck.

- de

As crazy as it sounds, the "spanking" worked. Thank you!!!

- de

Regarding your comment: There could also be parts failing, heat element, control board, etc., that would require diagnosing. How can i diagnose heat element or control board?

- de

You are a lifesaver, gave it a good spanking and viola it's working. It is now being cleaned with vinegar and filtered water, amazed at the gunk that came out. Thank you so much.

Try descale the unit. I found article after purchasing 3rd unit that every month unit should be descaled even if using filtered water. Oils build up from coffee and water deposits. Gl

Addendum to above. When I say I tried all of above I mean; clean with vinegar, clean with descale solution, use cleaning pods, spank machine, hold down brew button, shake machine upside down, use room temperature filtered water and finally bought new machine which immediately had same malfunction with filtered water. All of these failed. As final hope I tried using tap water and have had no problems at all!

Second addendum to above. This refers to Keurig mini single cup brewer.

My machine was a gift from my son and daughter in law. It never really gave me a full cup. Only a spot of tea. But what really bugs me. It was never HOT. ZERO steam no smell and I always had to re heat. Since it was a gift. I didn't return it. I should have. I just cleaned it plus, spanked it. (After all the issues I have to admit I enjoyed that) Let's see if this works. I have “well water" so I use bottled water 100%. Will try Distilled tomorrow

When this happened to me I contacted Keurig and they asked me if I used a water dispenser machine as the water may have been too cold for my Keurig. They were right.

i’d try the vinegar first because you probably already have some in the kitchen. If it’s not strong enough, then you can try a descaler but i’m guessing if it’s the Keurig descaler, it will cost alot more than vinegar.

good luck

My machine is only 6 months old and it’s doing the same thing! It takes 5 minutes of fiddling around to get the heating element to start. I don’t understand how coffee buildup can affect whether the heating element turns on though…not even connected…I will be calling keurig! I think I got a defective machine…

Safety pin through the two holes on the pin puncture opens up blockage.

Gently use a needle or safety pin. There are some tiny O rings so don't use too much force.

You will probably see some water drain too.

This puncture pin also is how the water is forced with pressure through the coffee in the k cup.

YouTube videos are helpful...bacteria can occur around the screen in the water tank. Wash this area with liquid soap detergent.

I ran vinegar through first and let it run through several cups Then, I unplugged the unit, cleaned the water tank and turned the unit upside to drain . This morning I “slapped" it prior to plugging it back in and it works like a charm. Now, I am running it several times to rid the vinegar.

Keurig disperses hot water regardless of what Keurig model you have. How you obtain, it is the difference, whether you have a Keurig model with a hot water button or the one that doesn’t have this feature.

All you need is to simply lift and then close the handle without inserting a K-cup pod and start brewing like you normally do while brewing coffee. Keurig will dispense hot water now.

keurig with hot water button- keurig K-Elite

Keurig without hot water button- other Keurig model

yes, you get hot water from Keurig with any model you have

I descaled but the only way it would was by pushing the 12oz. And k at the same time. Power light does not stay on it blinks and only the 12 oz will light up shortly. Then push that with the k. As long as I keep pushing the water comes out... cold. If I let up on the buttons at all it quits. We have a keruig slim. Have washed all parts and it still won't work. We haven't even had it a year. This would be the 2nd time descaling. I can't afford another one!

I descaled my Cuisinart coffee maker machine with white vinegar and was not heating still. So i found this page up and i did try the procedure suggested by pressing Hot water and Clean buttons at the same time for 6 seconds. I did it three times until the hot water poured out. Thank you for your post. I would never know this procedure. However I've already ordered one because my husband said to throw it away. i will just use this in my She Shed. Thank you again. Bless your heart in sharing!
