Top Screen Vibrates When I Turn It On

My DS Lite's top screen vibrates really fast up and down when it is on. It's like I'm shaking the screen really fast when I'm not, and although I can still play, it is very annoying.

Do I need to replace the whole screen? Or is it just a problem with the connectors>

Yikes! That is annoying.

Luckily there are several good iFixit repair guides (right on this site) for the DS Lite.

When the top screen image shifts up and down the simplest thing to try is to open the bottom case - not the top case!

Find the brown ribbon cable coming from the top screen and follow the directions here on iFixit for gently flipping the connector latch and unplugging the cable.

Usually I use a clean pink pencil eraser and very, very lightly wipe the ribbon wire traces. Then reconnect, close the connector latch and try again.

If you still get the screen vibration you may have a creased or broken ribbon cable.

You will have to replace the entire top screen, because as far as I know, the cable is not available, nor is it easily replaceable.

This is actually not hard to do if you like tinkering and fixing things. The top screen can be found at places like dealextreme.com or eBay for $10-$15 USD including shipping.

Best of luck. Hope you are able to fix your DS Lite. I really love mine - though I only play old school GameBoy Advance games on it !

This can also be fixed by using an 0 Phillips screwdriver to adjust variable resistors VR1 or VR2, accessible by removing the battery compartment cover. VR1 and VR2 are located either side of the fastening nut for the cover.

VR1 (left of the nut and closest to the GBA game slot) adjusts the upper LCD and VR2 the lower LCD.

Slowly and gently turn the screw until the shimmer is eliminated.

My top screen jitter shakes I did take the back off and marked before then adjusted the VR1 screw quite a bit in both directions with sadly no difference ;( I al going to see if I can't try to re-seat the brown ribbon cable it appears to be under the board so I have to figure out how to get that to lift out (possibly bottom screen holding it in), but if that doesn't work and I find a top screen replacement with cable I would "HOPE" that helps fix it.
