It's probably the screen at fault where the part of the glass that is for the proximity sensor (where the proximity sensor sits) is not made properly / for the sensor to work through the transparent tinted part of the glass.

Either it's a mounting issue or a bad quality replacement screen.

THank you for your response. Whats the solution? is it possible to get the screen working? e.g. scratching the screen and then mark it or anything else?

Hi,

Ben its right, I heard once that the proximiti sensor has to signal timming clear, I mean, , clear it, reset config onphone and try again...

Also if you miss screws or the chasis is bended could affect that.

This is a tricky one. I just did an iPhone 6S screen repair, and took the top assembly part with the front cam from the original screen with little to no force. I can remove it without damaging the proximity sensor like I used to (remember pulling the front cam assembly and seeing the prox sensor sitting there on the screen inside the plastic sensor holder? lol) with those things. After the repair, the phone no longer went off during a phone call and putting it by your ear. I've bought two replacement front cam assemblies with proximity sensor and nothing yet.

I test by leaving the phone open, and using a tester app. When I cover the sensor with my thumb it should go to a black screen, but it doesn't. I'm not sure what happened. No physical damage, two other replacement parts didn't fix it. Did I somehow mess up the board? Has this happened to anyone else? I feel bad for that happening to my clients phone :/ I've done this repair many times before with no problem.

I have the same problem and didn't have a solution for it.

Hi,

Usually poor quality screens can cause this, reading the comments a few people are having issues.

I've never had this issue once, but that's because I use original quality screens.

So it's either the parts you're using, or you're not inserting the proximity sensor correctly, also make sure to glue down the plastic holder for the sensor to keep it in place. :-)

I had this problem with a few phones I repaired.

If you are using a non OEM sensor with a non OEM screen, make two small scratch holes in the paint on the screen where the proximity sensor sits. You should clearly see light through the scratches. Always glue the original sensor holder into the correct position.

If you are using a working OEM sensor with a non OEM screen, darken the inside of the glass where the sensor sits with a black sharpie. I have noticed that the OEM sensors are prone to faults once removed so I find it better to use non OEM sensors as they are far less sensitive and cost very little.

I have not had a problem since adapting this method on 100+ repairs.

This is a good way and also i find many people change the screens with non OEM and they somehow lose the little black seal or boot I call it. This falls out often if you play with the cables too much trying to get it back together. Once you get the little black boot and put it in properly it will restrict light into the phone.

I also ran into this problem and confirmed it's parts based off of two different suppliers.

I did find a very odd fix that I've been using for bad part proximity issues since the iPhone 4; take the proximity sensor out of it's seating and where the opacity on the glass is (the black dot), grab a black sharpie and color on the back of the glass as much as you can. You want to basically fill the square area where the proximity sensor will fit, and it will all be coated with sharpie.

Put the proximity sensor back in, put the phone back together, and there's a good chance the proximity issue will be working again.

Note: this fix will not work if there are any type of front camera / ear speaker problems, as that indicates it's likely the flex cable itself.

I have tried different suppliers screen and come to conclusion that this is due to faulty screen as iPhone 6s now use additional circuits just on screen to regulate .

Had the same problem several times. My problem was not the sensor but the replacement screen.

When I changed replacement screen with a new one it was working again. (screen going black under a phone call when the sensors was covered)

I know, it's strange.

It IS unfortunate that this problem persists. It's NOT the technicians I assure you. We know how to replace screens with no problems. It's just the replacement parts we can get for the 6S are not the best. My repairs stop at the six and six plus. I don't do 6S or beyond anymore because of this reason.
