I noticed that there were holes in my t-shirt from front to back. Not sure if it was the washer or dryer. It looked like a bite was taken out of it. I don't have a n agitator dash in my washer.

I am having the same problem with synthetic clothing they pull and it’s very annoying. You have to throw them out because you can’t war them anymore.

Has anyone figured this out I have weird things happening to me and I don't know if it's my hot water heater but I develop sores on my skin and all my clothes are fraying or got holes in it along with my towels that I use

My Maytag model mhw5500w is making holes in our clothes that match the hole pattern in drum. We appliance care out four times -sanded rough places around holes and next week they will replace the drum . As people’s suggest slow speeds why do washer makers make them with such fast speeds if the fast speed is causing holes in our clothes. Our washer is one year today

We got a Maytag top loader several years ago from a friend. Just started tearing holes in shirts near the elbow. On inspection, there is a gap between the agitator blades and the base. I surmise that the sleeves are getting caught in one of these gaps on the spin cycle and torn when the agitator does its thing during the rinse cycle. Only happening on the sleeves of men’s shirts. Wish I could see a new agitator to check this out. Any one else have this problem?

Hi,

Are you washing the shirts and undergarments using a gentle or delicates wash cycle? If not try it. It agitates and spins the clothing at a reduced speed, which causes less damage to the clothing. Also try placing the undergarments in mesh laundry wash bags. As they are usually of a more delicate material being in the bag(s) will prevent them from being caught and snagged by the other clothing during the wash cycle.

Not sure about the towels but perhaps they might be becoming frayed due to the dryer setting being too hot. I realize that you want them dry, but there is dry and then there is also 'bone dry' (this might also apply to the other clothing) . How much lint is being trapped in the dryer when the towels are being dried? If there is a lot, then the material is being removed from the towels, making them thinner and more prone to fraying.

Hi @ Larry bogie,

With regards to developing sores, try using a different laundry detergent to wash the clothes. It maybe that you are getting allergic to whatever chemical combinations are being used.

If you are not doing it already, try washing your clothes/ towels etc in cold water and check if this helps to reduce the damage to the clothing/towels etc. Most laundry detergents are suitable for cold water washing

Holes in tee shirts, etc. I determined that it is the lint cover of several Maytag dryers that I have had.

The holes on the front side of the lint vent are smooth but the underside is sharp. As the clothes are being dryed fabrics can get caught in the vent holes and this is why you see the same little holes right next to each other.

I have taken the vent cover off of my Maytag Bravos and lightly sanded down each underside edge with an electric nail buffer, a tool that nail salons use. I put many items in mesh laundry bags to help avoid this problem. Unfortunately, I still get holes every once in awhile.

I have had Maytag authorized repair people suggest that maybe I was overloading my washing machine.

Finally, one guy admitted that it wasn’t the holes in the washer but it was the dryer

vent.

To fix this issue all they have to do is make sure that the vent holes are smooth on both sides and change the design by making the holes smaller so things don’t have a chance to get caught.

Also, make all of your loads light, for example, when I do king size bedding I do it in 3 loads, the fitted sheet by itself, the top sheet by itself and then the pillow cases (I have 6). I do it on the Quick Wash cycle and I use Woolite.

I don’t mix things with zippers in with other non zippered items. I don’t mix light weight items like tee shirts with heavier items like towels.

It’s such a process but I no longer have holes in lightweight items or pulled threads in towels, etc. ! YAY !

If you use the wash on high or extra high soil level when washing your clothes , it will over agitate and wear through some materials.

If you have a washer without an agitator...there are sometimes burrs under the middle plate. The cloths get snagged. if you lift the plate you will see an accumulation of fabric threads. file down the burr.
