just installed a DMX7704S in my 2004 Acura MDX with Sirius, and it keeps rebooting. Took it in and they replaced the unit, still having the problem.

I have a kdc-138 and it is stuck in a reboot loop.. what do I do

I'm not familiar with the KDC series, but I have managed to repair a DNX6190HD(same as 6990HD, 7190HD, 9990HD), by replacing the nand flash on the pc board, it's a Toshiba IC(TC58NVGIS3ETAI0). pacparts.com, or eastcoasttransistors.com have the part, not cheap though(with software on it), ~$60. You also need to know, the part number from the board.

I have the same problem with my kenwood ddx9702s. It may reboot 4 times in a row then it might not do it for 2 days. I was hoping to find a way to resolve it other than going to a Kenwood service center. I do not have one close by. I would like to do a factory reset but I cannot figure out how.

Hi

Have you tried resetting the device?

Here is an image that shows how. (apologies for the poor quality)

Block Image

If that doesn't work try removing all the power from the device , press and hold the on button for 10 seconds to drain residual power, then re apply the power supplies and see if it starts normally.

If the reset or power refresh works you may wish to check that the firmware is up to date.

Here is a link that shows the models that the firmware is for. In it, there is a link to a guide on how to install the firmware (take note of the precautions at the bottom of the guide) as well as a link to download the firmware file.

I tried to reset it but that didn't work either

Hi, Since you have got nothing to lose, try updating the firmware as per the guide. I know with some TVs that when you power it on the first thing that it does is look at the external USB or MMC port to see if there is a file there with the correct name for a firmware update. Perhaps your radio is the same. Download the firmware file, install it in the root directory of the USB drive (i.e. don't put it in a sub folder on the drive) and then plug the USB into the radio and switch on and see what happens.

I will try that thank you

No luck its still in the rebooting loop, thank you for the help, do you have any other suggestions

Hi, My only suggestion now is to contact Kenwood Home and Car products, (here is a link if you are in the USA of course http://www.kenwood.com/usa/about/ ) and ask to speak to someone in Technical support regarding whether there is a 'fix' for a bootloop problem in your model device. It never hurts to ask and you may be surprised by the answer. At least you will know.

If you go to Karstens Audio Works on Facebook, you will see that I have reflashed various Kenwood navigation units from the other side of the world.

What are the model numbers of the units? If they are navigation units, the daughter board is located under the CD mechanism. You can check out a few of my overseas clients who I reflashed their Kenwood Navigation units for on Karstens Audio on Facebook.
