Proximity sensor issue after screen/LCD digitizer replacement

My screen shatered on my Nexus 5X. Took it to a repair store, replaced screen/digitizer and now when I make a call (push the green button) the screen goes black, same when I accept a call. Only way to fix it is to reboot if no one answers.

Hi, the issue is with the gasket that the sensor fits in. The repair shop has most likely left it on the old LCD. Remove the foam bit that the sensor sits in and fit it to the new LCD..

that's exactly right I had the same problem fond the gasket cleaned the proximity and light sensors with a qtip and alcohol and clean the screen where these would line up as well. Carefully placed the gasket on the sensors (on the phone mother board) carefully reassembled the mother board on the phone chassis. And voila... one cool app is AIDA64 which will tell you right away if your proximity sensor works: default value is 5cm when the proximity sensor is "tripped" value goes to 0 cm.

@thetechguysmcr That totally fixed it for me! I was afraid that I had broken the actual sensor while replacing my screen, thanks for the tip.

The only thing I have figured out is to change settings so that the Power Button can end a call. I have taken the phone apart and it does not seem that the proximity sensor (or light sensor) can be removed/fixed. It is soldered to the motherboard.

- Settings – Accessibility, and enable “Power button ends call.”

the problem is typically not the sensor but the rubber gasket between said sensor and the chassis/LCD
