Unresponsive/laggy touch screen after replacing front assembly

I recently replaced the front assembly/screen on my iPhone6 and have been having some issues with the touch screen. The digitizer becomes unresponsive or lags behind touch input.

Some examples of the issue:

  • keyboard buttons don't fire (especially keys at the edge of the screen)
  • Keys will lag and then fire multiple times (e.g., Backspace key will start deleting text long after I attempted to remove characters)
  • Scroll becomes jittery and/or completely unresponsive

My attempts at fixing this issue:

  • Locking and unlocking the screen when the touch screen starts to act up has no effect
  • Restarting the phone has also been unsuccessful in fixing the problem, as the behavior returns shortly after boot
  • reinstalling iOS (thought it might have been a software bug)
  • reinstalling the front assembly; disconnecting and reconnecting the cables

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

Should I attempt to clean up the cables with rubbing alcohol to remove any oil that might have gotten inside the phone during installation?

Is there any app that I can use to see how my phone is registering touch events?

Any other ideas on how to troubleshoot this issue?

Bottom line answer if you have done all that you mentioned is that your digitizer is faulty . Another screen is the only way forward unfortunately

Thanks for your reply. The front assembly was bought from iFixit and is still under warranty, so I will contact them and see if there is anything else I should try to do before getting a new one/sending it back.

theres nothing else you should try and do , bottom line its faulty, point them in the direction of this answer page and they should offer a replacement. how much is an iPhone 6 screen with them anyway, surely its cheaper to go to Apple? its £79 here in the UK

@smartfoneni Thanks! I've contacted them. The screen and digitizer (w/o the assembly) runs about $120 USD. Is your quote for Apple to do it include labor?

- de

yes including Apple labor* , iPhone 6/S series of phones are the only time Apple are competitive. its a very fair price to be honest.

couple of points to be made though.

1. if you have previously opened your device and Apple are aware or made aware of this then they can and most likely will refuse screen replacement, also any remaining warranty is void.

2. if your frame is dented round edges in any way or the familiar bend then they will not replace the screen and only offer an out of warranty repair at $299!!

https://www.apple.com/support/iphone/rep...

Advice i give my customers is to go to apple first, if they refuse then i can still replace the screen but at same cost. Dents can be taken out using a G-Tool (its too expensive for a single use so only for repair shops etc)

Here in the U.K an out of warranty is £229 for a walk in

screen replacement is £79 for a walk in

https://www.apple.com/uk/support/iphone/...

the prices you see on the site however include shipping if you were to post off, generally takes 7-10 days here in U.K

I agree with Smartfone NI! Always start with step 1, replacement parts are not immune to defects. Anyone in mobile repair will tell you to test another screen.

ive had the same issue with my iphone 6s. after replacing the screen, keys would double press and scrolling is stuttery but when i plugged my original screen in, those issues go away. the thing is, is that ive tried this with 5 different screens from different sellers on ebay and they all have this issue. is there something wrong with my phone?

No there is nothing wrong with you phone. It is all the screen the copy parts a lot of times have issues and they will lag the only way to fix your screen is if your original apple lcd is good and you separate the lcd from the broken glass and just replace the glass.

if i use an OEM screen, would that fix my issue? http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/232051084631 is this a real OEM screen, if not, is there any other way i can get a screen replacement without having to separate the glass?

It’s not your phone that’s the problem Apple has admitted to doing this to all older versions of the iPhone’s
