Is an LCD display replacement possible?

So I spilled a bottle of water on my MPB, and the CPU, GFX, etc. work, it's just the display that's fried. Is there any way that I can just go in and replace the LCD? I understand I'd have to take the entire thing apart, but is it possible to replace the LCD without a pricey, $800 lid replacement? Thanks!

First of all, the spill may have damaged the logic board so the display itself may be ok but the logic board display output may have been damaged. There's really no way to test that unless you try to hook your LCD up to another computer. Try to test the video output on an external monitor. That still won't tell you if the internal video output is working. But if you can't get anything from the external output, you know its a logic board issue anyways.

Replacing the LCD is possible. I've seen it done myself however, I'm amazed we didn't destroy the LCD or front panel glass when removing the front glass. It takes a heat gun and large suction cups to literally pry the front glass off. It's not for the faint of heart. The amount of force you'll be using will make you feel like you are pulling a tooth out of someone's jaw.

+ for a generally good answer with the exception of hooking it up to an external. That will tell you if the video output is good. Hook it up via firewire cable to another mac and start up holding the "T" key. This is Target mode and if your unit is working the hard drive icon should show up on the other mac. This will give you access to all your files in case you don't have a backup.
