Preguntas 42 Ver todo

idiot light meanings and battery replacement

By asking, we all learn and you get points. I have an APC Smart-UPS 700 Uninterruptible Power Supply. I could look this up for myself but then only I would know the answer. I'm a firm believer in Uninterruptible Power Supplies. I've had this one about eight years. It's starting to beep at me a couple of times a day. Probably means I need to replace one of the batteries. Question, should I replace only a bad one or both. How do I tell which one is bad? There are four rows of lights, and eight symbols along with test buttons. It really looks impressive and would be even better if I knew what they meant. I did find the replacement batteries from my battery wholesaler and even at wholesale they are not cheap. Finally a question from me that is answerable ;-) Also what to do with the expended batteries.

Here is a link to the users manual for your unit. It does explain the lights but does not mention individual battery replacement. I have always been told that when one is bad replace all and save yourself a return trip. The manual does indicate you should either return the used batteries to them or to a appropriate disposal facility. I hope this answers your question. Ralph

Hi Guys,

I am also a firm believer of UPS's they have saved my arse on many occasions, especially in areas of fluctuation and power outages. It is very important for me that the systems that are connected to the UPS are also shut down properly by the UPS's management software to avoid corruption.

When i have replaced batteries in my UPS's here i have always replaced the whole tray or all the batteries in the unit, they are all getting used constantly so if one has failed the others wont be far behind, in personal experience.

Also note that when you get a battery from the official source replacement for your UPS they will always (as confined in laws) ship you a returns procedure. Pop the old battery in the box the new one came in and send it back to them for the correct disposal methods.

It is also a good idea to test your unit using a frequency of around once a month, it's really a simple process of just pressing the test button on your UPS.

James.
