Okay well my ZTE Grand X3 wont charge and it is annoying the charger is a USB-C which is the charger that fits

My Grand Max X 2 has the same problem almost it can still hold a charge but it can't take a charge.. I dropped it and shattered the screen and broke the speaker... And I run a lot of modded games... It takes over 5 hours to charge when it's turned off...

- de

And I tried to to go to a cell phone repair shop. But they wouldn't even look at it. They said it was some contract with ZTE or something.

If you're receiving a message stating insufficient current or something similar to that than your charges is either starting to fail or you possibly need a new 5v 1.5amp to 2.1amp charger or possibly just a high quality MicroUSB to USB charging cable replacement

It could also be that you are plugged into an extension cord or a socket that's shared with more then 2 plug sockets You have to plug it to hard wired plug socket. That's the only 2016 it gets full juice.

I read many of the comments. I feel that the company it's self is responsible for its charging issue. I bought a tablet by RCA . Last year .works great all of a sudden nothing it don't turn on. Rca Says it's an issue in battery. Really. What they can't recall stuff n send people that can prove they bought it a new power source. As with ZTE they can't tell us how to fix a port. Or recall the phone. Its not the matter that the phone is old or new it does it to all of them eventually!!!. Fix the issue I'm being forced to use an LG really!!!! Ripping my hair out!!!!

I happen to have my Z987 open now to replace the digitizer and LCD. The USB/charge port is soldered directly onto the motherboard. If your problem is due to damage to it, then I'm afraid you are out of luck unless you are very handy with a soldering iron.

Here are some trouble shooting tips:

  • Obvious damage to the charge port
    • Replace the motherboard
    • Take your chances with a soldering iron (if you can find the right part)
    • Get professional help
    • Get a new phone
  • If there is no obvious damage to the charge port, then you may have an easier problem to solve.
    • The phone powers on when it is plugged in to a USB port
      • The problem could be a bad battery
      • The battery cable may have disconnected from the motherboard.
    • Otherwise, there may be non-obvious damage to the charge port, see recommendations for obvious damage to charge port.

I hope this helps.

I have an Z987 and it's micro USB port had failed due to normal usage a standardreplacement microUSB jack are easy enough to find and order for about $1.50 each but what I opted for was a more permanent solution so I wouldn't have to deal with a worn out microUSBjack replacement down the line at sometime I just permanently installed internally a standard wireless Qi receiver module to by pass ever having to depend exclusively on a microUSB charger to charge the phone I have multiple wireless Qi charging pad around my house and install in all my vehicles that I use but if I'm not in a place that I might not have access to a wireless Qi charging pad I keep a high quality standard microUSB charging cable so I can plug into anystandard USB charging port in an emergency

I have the same problem! It's definitely not the charger it's definitely the port in the phone! Does anyone know if this covered under warranty because my phone isn't even that old and it's already broken. The charger cord is no good anymore because the USB plug in got so hot one time and burned it out and it was plugged into my wall!!! I feel really ripped off for a $200. phone!

I got my phone 7 months ago, and according to ZTE, the issue is not covered by the 1 year warranty.

I had same issue the charge port would not allow the uSB-c. Cable to connect. I used tape n put stuff on the cord to get it to not move! Well I even spent upwards of 22.-27.00 for 2 USB-c.. And that's each after spending 200.00 bucks for the phone. And then 30. For SD.card. Well I fixed it really well after it kept dying on me for an important call. I bounced it off the wall. Now I'm the proud owner of an LG stylo...worst number two phone I have ever owned flip phone is better!!! Why can't they just fix the issue and then we can enjoy an already great phone Sept the port... It just confuses me the ignorance!!!!

A. Chinese company.

B. Consumers are expected to buy for themselves.

C. Government has almost nothing to do with this.

D. But the government does often force warranties on products.

E. $200 isn't alot for a smartphone, what do you expect?

F. Nothing is being taken. Just broken. (Again, Chinese company.)

G. I have about a million other reasons this argument isn't valid.

H. STOP SCREEMING!

Its not the government that would protect us, in this case. It would be superior companies that build superior devices that are built to last and have replaceable parts. What was bugging me for a while is that Google had ownership over my phone's apps and activities, and I did not (unless I rooted my phone, but then I would be held responsible if I installed some apps and my information was leaked to the party that helped me root my phone... instead of Google). I decided that I trust Google more than I trust some hacker. Hardware companies list the details of all of the parts, so it is the buyer's responsibility to purchase devices that will be dependable and durable.

I would suggest that you find a local cell phone repair shop or some times many of the extremely good/excellent computer/laptop repair shops are more than skilled and capable fo repairing almost any Android cellphone currently being produced, microUSB charging port.

IDK what these other shops might charge but if you are local to me (Terre Haute Indiana area) I charge flat rate of $150 to replace this port which includes a new micro USB port (the only delay is I have to order this part since I don't maintain any inventory of parts which helps me maintain a lower cost of operations)(installed&tested) the microUSB charging port

I lost an iPhone 5s a month ago. LOVED that phone. Anyway...out of desperation, I pulled out my ZTE Grand Xmax Plus that has been dead for the better part of 2 years. I had the same issue with the charging port, but mine had actually broken off the piece it was mounted to on the logic board.

I searched eBay, found a logic board for $35 and voila! I'm back in business.

I'm anything but a pro at this stuff, but I figured it out. I'm glad to have this baby back! I feel like Roy Rogers being reunited with Trigger! Lol

Hey I was asking about the same thing.but I had a little different type of problem.its still consists of USB port.I had mine Grand Max 3 charging in my car with the right cord and an adapter plug to my lighter.well all of a sudden smoke started coming out of my phone USB port.i quickly unplug it held it up in front of the AC until cooled off the cord melted and the charger tab was black and toasty.i called 15 local phone repair places.not a one would even look at it for me .sorry some people are a_-

holes.so I scraped off most of the black and I tried to charge it nothing.so I set a ashtray on top of the phone and let the Port end hang over the edge about 1inch.then }luged up the cord bent the cord attached a rubber band around the cord then stretched out the rubber band and hooked it to something below.it made the back of the cord where plugged in pull down make The inside connection force up and my phone charges now.it my not work for anyone else or u may have to be a crafty redneck to get it to work.jus playing I have done 2 ZTE these way it's cheap matieral .

I just bought a Verizon zte phone not even 2 months ago and tonight I plugged into charge it had only been charging 5 mins when I smelt something like wires melting so I started looking around to find my phone port had litterally melted to my charger and the wire itself had melted into which in the process burnt my car seat can. Some direct me towards who to start contacting

Hi @kaylas82 ,

If you were using the charger that came with the phone then contact the retailer where you got the phone from.

If they won't help. check the ZTE warranty provisions as to what to do to make a claim for a manufacturer's warranty repair or replacement.

If you weren't using the charger that came with the phone, you may have to check if it was suitable to charge the phone, (you don't state the model of the phone so I don't know if it was compatible with using a fast charger for example, which may damage the phone if the phone was not designed to work with one.)

If it was not a compatible charger (check output Voltage and Current values stamped on charger against what is stamped on an approved charger) then the manufacturer (or retailer) may possibly refuse to help you citing User error.

Also if it was a compatible charger I don't know if the phone manufacturer will fix the car seat you may have to check with your car insurance company whether they will fix it and perhaps they'll try to claim back from the phone maker. No doubt you'll have to pay something. It may depend on your car insurance policy provisions.

If it was a name brand compatible car charger then perhaps they may help. It depends on their product warranty provisions.

If it is an unknown brand compatible car charger then there is no point pursing them, even if you knew where to look.

Good Luck.

Hello I recently have noticed my zte zmax pro whenever I plug in my phone will not charge unless I hold down the wire in a certain position I've tried different wires and the are fine on other phones or items and it's something in the port. Yet when I look there is no visible damage or any problem. Why is this happening?
