ps4 wont use update on usb

I replaced the motherboard/optical drive on my ps4 and now its asking for system update using a usb for version 3.00 or later. I formatted my usb for FAT32 and downloaded the update from the plastation.com website and put it in the file format PS4->UPDATE->PS4UPDATE.PUP

it gave error code (CE-35952-4)

this didn''t work. Then I tried the exfat format with the same file path, and that did not fix the problem either. Both were attempted in safe mode, I have tried all of the other options from the safe mode menu and still the system will not load properly.

Please help and thank you for doing so.

I finally got it to update after using your advice and a 2 gig usb. For whatever reason the ps4 wont update using a usb with greater than 4kb block size. Go figure. Thank you for your help!

Great news! I'm glad you got it working!

If replacing a HDD into the PS4, as TronicsFix stated, do not download the top update file. You need to download the file under System Software Tab at the bottom of the page (~800 mbs). Kept experiencing the same problem as the PS4 said get latest update file, which I already had in my FAT32 formatted usb drive. Thank you TronicsFix

This was the REAL fix...what a life saver... she's awesome☺

I just got myself a new 2tb hard drive for my PlayStation 4 and I got a USB flash drive that's been formatted so I could download the update. I didn't download the first link at the top of the page but I downloaded the other one that's 800mb and made a file PS4->UPDATE-> "PS4UPDATE.PUP" and out my PS4 in safe mode and tried initializing PS4 software and it says update not found! Need help ASAP!

There is a good chance that you have the wrong update file loaded onto your drive. When you are on Sony's website the first one you come to is not the right file (It's for the most current UPDATE...you need the entire system software)...the file you need is located near the bottom of the page. When you get close to the bottom of the page you'll see this: "Perform a New Installation of the System Software"

That's the file that you need. Just be sure to reformat your drive and follow the rest of the instructions to a T.

I hope this helps. Post back here if you still need more help.

Good luck!

I finally got mine to work after hours of try and looking up stuff online with no luck. I renamed the file "PS4UPDATE.PUP" before I put it in the "UPDATE" file (usually I was naming it after placing it in the file). I didn't delete the old file that was in there. A message came up that I was downloading a duplicate file named "PS4UPDATE.PUP.PUP" So my computer already applied the .PUP so I didn't need to add it to the file name. So I removed the .PUP and just put in "PS4UPDATE" and to finally worked. Hope this helps.

Ok so…. I had a power outage the other day my ps4 was on. I didnt want to turn it on again because of the possibility that it could go out again. So the next day I go to turn it on and it says that I need to install the update file via usb, disc or internet. I booted it in safe mode and tried internet (with lan cable). ,,update file 7.51 available” I press it to update. First it downloaded the update, then it started applying it. After that it restarted and checked my HDD again and I was at the beggining. Did it a couple more times. Tried with USB (FAT32 , 4 GB storage abd everything named and downloaded corectly) the ps4 got it, downloaded the update, applied it and after restart - nothing. Back at the beggining, checked the HDD and it just doesnt want to update. Says update complete and when it restarts it doesnt want to boot. I really dont want to factory reset it, because I have so many clips and other files that I want to keep. Is it possible to update it without wiping the whole HDD. I need answers. Thank you beforehand.

Be sure to Format your USB. If you have used it for anything else other than this update file, you will need to do that.

I tried a USB drive with 2 GB and mine doesn't get recognized by the PS4 either. Does the flash drive need to be a specific USB version? I believe this one is 2.0, but I can't be sure.

So when doing the flash drive format to fat32 or exfat than create a folder PS4 caps and click into that and create folder UPDATE all caps and than put update in that folder and it should work. Good luck everyone
