What part of the xbox one handles wireless controller communication?

I have created a bit of a custom-hacked-together xbox one, and since doing so controller connection cuts out every 10 min or so and stays disconnected for a second or two before reconnecting. This happens when I'm only 8-9 feet away and doesn't seem to get better when getting closer to the xbox.

What I want to know is, Is it the wifi card/chip or the RF module that houses the antenna/chip for controller communication?

For reference here is the mod in question, http://imgur.com/a/EZuso

I have this problem also, but it is on a stock out-of-box retail unit. I also get interference with the bluetooth devices in the same room as the xbox. I purchased the front RF board to replace in hopes that will rectify the situation. What I don't understand is in the instructions it indicates the hard drive and optical drive must be removed to replace the RF. Why is that? It seems the motherboard assy can be removed without those steps.

Can anyone verify that I am addressing this problem correctly?

I have further investigated this issue and it would seem that the communication for the new xbox one is wifi-esque. Its not quite wifi but its not quite bluetooth. So by default it would be the wifi board that handles the controller connections. The RF board however has the antenna for the wifi board. To answer your question no you do not have to remove the ODD and HDD. You just need to take the metal chassis for the xbox out of the plastic housing, then you can gain access to the RF board and remove it. And for my own question I believe my problem is just the proximity of my console next to a router. I have eliminated what I believe is every other possibility including replacing the wifi board and even purchasinga mini pci wifi cable that adapts to a full sized antenna, issue still persists.

Hmm, very interesting. My router is also very close to the xbox. However that doesn't explain why the xbox causes interference with my bluetooth soundbar and bluetooth connections with my mobile phone when in vicinity of the xbox (connections drop and reconnect rapidly every 4-8 minutes for about 10-15 seconds). These interruptions only happen when the xbox is powered on. Thank you for the response.

Here, I may have mislead you in my explanation the two chips on the wifi card almost seem like they are the same but I'm fairly confident http://www.marvell.com/wireless/avastar/...

this one (the orange one on the diagram) is the one that handles controller communication. If you read into the specific details of the other card (the one in red) on that page you will see it does have a hand in bluetooth so maybe that is precisely what is going on.

So what you're saying is.. it looks like I purchased the wrong part :)

I guess I will need to order another wifi board and try that out. Looks easier to replace than the RF board at least. Andy, do you happen to have any use for this RF board?

I had the same problem after I took my xbox one apart. I then took it apart again to find a problem and the cable that comes out of the WiFi card was loose and after reconnecting it I have had no problems. I don't know if the problem will be the same with yours but I think the controller signal comes from the WiFi card

If it is a Xbox One S, it connects through Bluetooth. If it is a Xbox One, it communicates through a WiFi type protocol, sort of WiFi Peer to Peer, or WiFi Direct. Try a different controller first but if it is the Xbox, it could be the WiFi Board or the RF Module.

I have this problem with my Xbox one s controller connecting to any console works perfect on usb, iv done everything possible been told by local shop they can replace WiFi chip inside controller any idea where and how I would change this myself as they want the price for a new controller just to diagnose and repair

- de

@leecase Well, I'd be happy to help with that. Did you try connecting it to a Bluetooth enabled PC to see if it will work? Try that and let me know.

@reedcrosby

I have the same problem as @leecase and in my case i have no problem to connect controller to phone via bluetooth.

I have only problem to get wireless connection with my Xbox One console.

This problem concern 1708 controller (there is no problem with my console because another 1708 controller working like a charm).

Maybe you can help me and suggest any possible solutions.

Best Regards.

Not the wifi chip board. At all. Its the face plate with the light on it. The wifi is conected to it with a snap on conecter But if that wire gets unsnapped. ( no controller. )Or of that wire is not metal to ketal with top shell were it can ground face plate. NO CONTROLLER. HELPS TO UN SNAP THE TWO ON FACE PLATE THAT GO TO THE SPEAKER .JUST UNPLUG IT. JUST THE SOUND OF STARTUP AND SHUT DOWN. BUT. SHOULD STOP HAVE DISCONECTIONS AFTER THATTINY
