Hi there, it sounds like you may have damaged the charging port (where the mic is located). When you speak while on speaker phone your device will be switching to a different mic thats inside the phone. There is usually 2-3 mics in a phone. The home button also is connected to the charging port.

Good luck.

Thanks for your response. Meanwhile I figured out that the problem was located at the other end, where the cameras and an other mic are located. This mic was not properly in place and was further pushed aside by the 3 flat cables when the housing was put together.

I detected this by leaving this side a bit open, and closing just the home button side: Then the mic worked fine, so it had to do with the densely packed components on the upper end. Pushing the microphone more underneath its cable finally solved the problem.

To sum itup: Replacing the front panel needs patience, three quiet hands, guts, and at least two hours. It requires more than "moderate" skills. Maybe for the next one it will be easier.

Where is a good place to order iPhone 5s parts? I had the same issue, but then the home button flat wire broke twice. That I also ordered from eBay.

I have the same problem. Just after battery replacement.

Microphone works on vídeos or calls using speakers, but doesn't work on recording notes. Home button doesn't work too, but Touch ID works perfectly.

Hi,

I have the exact same problem. After the phone is completely assembled, the mic does not work. Once the display is lifted a bit - with the home button cable cable still connected - it works fine. The same moment you put the display on the bottom case the mic is deaf again.

There seems to be a contact somewhere that causes a shortcut or something. Or could it be the little earthing clip mentioned on step 26 of the front panel replacement guide?

Does anyone have an idea? Many thanks in advance

Wolfgang

Change the charging port. The mic is part of the charging port assembly.

I had same problem last month. I replaced my battery and then the mic at bottom stopped working. But when I use it on speakerphone, people can hear me (I know it is using the secondary mic as there are 2 mics in the phone)

Well I replaced the charger port at the bottom which also houses the mic. Now my speaker phone and mic aren’t working. I put my old part back in and speakerphone works now but still no mic. I bent the tabs for the speaker phone and still not working on the new part. . Put my old part in waited for a replacement. Installed replacement one today. Speakerphone is now working with new part but still no mic working at bottom when talking into it normally. People can only hear me on speakerphone. I’ve come to the final conclusion that my logic board went bad. I am not sure how as I never dropped it and have been selling and repairing phones for 12 years. Gonna sell it for parts on Ebay now. I saw another seller with same exact issue. He replaced the same part I did and still no one can hear him on the bottom mic. You can try replacing the mic assembly at the bottom. It’s only $2.45 on eBay. It’s worth a shot. There are YouTube videos showing you how. I did mine in 15 mins in and out. Just line the screws up on a cloth so you know which ones go where. They are all different sizes. When I removed my battery I did notice a small piece of solder came out of the phone housing when I had it apart to replace it. Maybe this came off the mic part of the logic board or just a coincidence. Either way, I tried 2 different new bottom mic/charger port assembly’s and both didn’t fix it. I give up.

No microphone after replacing battery or charging dock Solved: Iphone5S: When replacing the battery or charger port theres a little steel cage you must remove, i couldnt get it back on correctly so I bypassed the cage and connected it, this didnt work, so I had the use the speakerphone to put pressure down on the cage without the wiring in it, then connected the home button and the speaker phone pressure on the cage creates some connection to the microphone. (the bar should be over the cage before screwing down sticking out the left side of the speaker phone. There needs to be pressure on that cage and the glued down foam piece being gone eliminates the pressure cushion with the phone assembled.
