How/when to move all data from original drive to new replacement?

Purchased a 1 TB SSD Hybrid 2.5" hard drive and what to replace the original hard drive. How and when should I move all my data to the new drive. My computer abilities are very limited as is my understanding of the nomenclature, but physically changing the drives is no problem.

What you want is a means to Clone one drives data onto another drive.

Apples migration app is useful when you have two systems (old and new)

SuperDuper is one of the better file cloners when you are working with a single system.

Today I would focus on using Apples Migration Utility. Cloning software has failed to keep up with the needs of the newer Mac OS's. I no longer use them.

Just to update, SuperDuper! has updated so it can be used for MacOS Ventura, Monterey, and Big Sur.

@avidspider - There’s a big difference between an application being designed to work with a newer OS because the API services changed (which is the case here) this has nothing to do with the file system!

So.. using SuperDuper between two HFS+ Data drives is just fine for backups.

The issue is the APFS volumes and specifically boot drives! Just the other week I had to dig someone out as they beleaved the claim but if you go back to SuperDuper web site you won’t find APFS cloning stated!

They do offer some new OS services which can be helpful in data recovery, but that’s not the apps main gig! Besides, these are all part of the newer OS services not cloning of the APFS file system.
