SSD upgrade MacBookPro Retina 13 11,1

hello.

I'm new here, and i just want to be sure i don't buy anything that isn't going to work.

i won't to upgrade my SSD(128 GB) to a larger one. but when i search on the web, most of the solutions only work on a older model than mine ( model ID: 11,1).

so my question is, is it possible to upgrade my SSD on my MacbookPro 11,1 13 inch retina?

Es esta una buena pregunta?

I'm afraid you will need to wait.

While companies like Transcend do make upgrade kits for the older MacBook Pro retina series there are no upgrades for '14 model offered yet. Here's the link to Transcend Apple SSD Upgrades. I would check them out every other week or so to see when they release an option.

As to why you can't just swap out the SSD with just anything has a lot to do with the M.2 standard and how it does not define the I/O dialog. While you can find SSD's which look exactly the same as yours they will not function as the firmware on the SSD dictates the dialog.

Think of it this way we all can talk, but if someone spoke a different language to you wouldn't understand what was being said. Thats the difference here between the physical interface (M.2) and the I/O dialog (mSATA, PCIe or what ever Apple is doing in your model).

Still waiting.....lord knows when they will sort this...til then, still using an sd drive but had to add a striped dual ssd thunderbolt drive...512Gb and 400mb write speed!

Still waiting...it is getting too long though!!! So sad

Bit of a joke, can't believe Apple have gone down this road, I would like to be able to open my Mac and upgrade it when I can not forced to buy a un-upgradeable lump of aluminum, no matter how aesthetically pleasing it may be.

@markaduffy - I do simphize with you as I would love to have it too! Sadly IFIXIT & us volunteers have no control here. So pinging the answer in disgust won't change things. I would hit up OWC & Transcend to see they have any news as to when they plan on releasing the new parts.

Just a matter of time till crucial/transcend/owc etc get their act together and offer one....I'm waiting too but in the interim, I'm using a Transcend Jetdrive lite 128gb......fits in sd socket flush and although slow, ideal for those big files I need to take with me (oh and video/music etc.....)....pretty cheap too, £50 in UK for 128Gb

A Dual drive SSD system! ;-}

Thanks @johntobias for the recommendation. I got one and moved my Photos Library to it to free up some space. Crossed fingers for an aftermarket SSD soon!

seems there is a glimmer of hope , the OWC website definately has MBP 11.1 on the list BUT and it is a very big BUT......by the time it arrives, it will be time to upgrade the mbp itself ! doh! meanwhile I now have a nifty drive 128gb and a tiny usb3 128gb drive but clunky and slow :-(

Well ... Yes & no here ;-) IFIXIT is offering a used part from a system that was torn down for its parts. Note the size is only 128 GB which is the base size for the MacBook Pro 13" model.

Sorry it didn't list the right one, click on the link and take a look there are sizes 128 - 1TB (used and new) Here is also what it says on the page

Product Overview

Compatibility

All 13" Retina (Late 2013/Mid 2014) MacBook Pros

All 15" Retina (Late 2013/Mid 2014) MacBook Pros

It appears the IFIXIT store web site has place markers for the different SSD units (with prices which is a bit of a surprise). Sadly, the site also states they are out of stock. If you click on the Notify Me button it will ask you for your email address. I don't know how long it will be before they get the units in. You may want to fire off a message to them to get further details.

I do not get it. https://www.aliexpress.com/w/wholesale-m...

buy an adapter for your mac on Aliexpress for less than 3USD and but any industry-standard SSD from Samsung or Toshiba for a fraction of the price.

You can get a bigger SSD from Other World Computing at <http://www.macsales.com>. I've dealt with them several times, and they've been great each time.

January 26, 2015, and nothing for this model.. No one knows any other option to replace my SSD??!! Pls help

- de

If you need more store space its time to invest in an external drive. I would go with a Thunderbolt drive (HD or SSD). I suspect it will be another year before you'll see any internal options from the 3rd parties.

- de

At the moment, OWC has an enclosure that's claimed to work with June 2013 and newer Apple flash SSDs. Since the previous generation of enclosures did not work with the newer mSATA modules, we might assume that they're getting closer to the release of aftermarket replacement drives.
