Failed GPU Apple Program or Other Repair
I got in a MacBook Pro 2.6 GHz A1226, EMC 2136. It appears to have a failed GPU. It will boot into target mode. I get nothing shinning a flashlight through the screen. Nothing on hooking up to an external monitor. I did a search on the Apple NVIDIA program but did not see a list of serial numbers for affected units nor do I know if Apple is still covering the issue. http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2377
My question is:
a. how would I find out if this one qualifies
b. if unqualified, is this a simple solder job
c. if not simple, who is a reliable repair source
Es esta una buena pregunta?

UPDATE - I finally broke down and called Apple with the number machead gave. The serial number matched their records. They are FedExing a box for overnight shipment. No credit card was required as Apple says they will cover it. Congratulations on passing Microsoft today Apple. I never thought I'd see it in my lifetime.

Does anyone remember the effected range of serial numbers? Nvidia took down the page where you could check your serial number last May with a notice that says:
"THE CLAIMS PERIOD IS NOW OVER AND WE CANNOT ACCEPT NEW CLAIMS.
The deadline to submit a claim was March 14, 2011. Claim forms may no longer be created or filed.''
In sure Apple will follow suit shortly.
