How does the reset work on the Fitbit Flex?

Can the Fitbit be reset without the OEM charger? I lost the charger and got an after market one, but it doesn't have a reset pin. Is it just a case of shorting the pins? Or is it a matter of applying 5V+ to one of the other pins?

I have same problem. I live abroad and there's no way to get original charger here. My fitbit is not syncing and I need to reset it badly!

Plug the bracelet in the wall charger and do the following to rest the Fitbit flex hold the button down on the side for 10 sec the software version should appear and you should be able to charge it again if the battery was completely drained. You should see the green LEDs also flash indicating it was successfully reset. Hopes this helps someone out.

Just reset mine per your instructions! I have old car chargers that stopped working. I used one of those. 1) disassembled it 2) took red and black wires off of the board 3) stripped them a little bit 4) plugged in the old charger 5) had my son hold the Fitbit as shown in the picture above 6) put the red wire in the middle and the black wire to the left. It worked and now my Fitbit is charging in the replacement charger I purchased. Thank Chris!

I managed to reset the device. Refer to the image below when reading the instructions:

Block Image

Instructions to reset:

While connecting +5V to the middle pin and 0V (GND) to the right pin, apply +5V momentarily to the left pin.

When I did this, the FitBit reset and was able to communicate via Bluetooth again.

Hi Chris,

Have you able to recharge the fitbit w/o the charger (using only the USB wires?)

I've lost my charger and still waiting for one to be shipped. I was wonder if i can recharge it until the charger will come.

- de

Yes, just connect +5V to middle and ground 0V to the right pin (pin orientation as per my previous comment.)

The light(s) on the fit bit should start glowing. More lights will glow as the charge level increases.

What do you mean by 5+ and OV?

- de

he means zero volts as in gound/ usually black wire, anyays Chris, i hve lost my oem charger for my flexbit and now it will not connect to my new phone, note 3, i have tried to reset it as per your instructions, what i have done is connect the red 5 volt wire to middle pin, then i connect black 0 volt ground to the right pin. I see the lights turn on likes it charging. So this is where I do not know what to do, I tried connecting a 5 volt red wire to the left pin while still connecting to the middle pin.

But it did not work, then I tried to move the red 5 volt from the middle to the left, while 0 volt wire is on right, and again nothing.

Can you tell me if there is anything that happens when you reset it, like different lights or any sign that it worked

Thank your comment. Charging is possible.

OMG! I can't believe that worked!!! It took me a sec to figure out how to get it to reset using your instructions. Basically you just create a short across those two pegs for a couple seconds. Thank you so much!!!! Now my Fitbit finally synced!!!

They fall of easily. Maybe you could try to return it if the place you found it has a lost and found? Someone is missing a device they paid > $100 for.

@justgenevieve

What if this person already searched for the original owner(s)?

Maybe the fit bit was found with no one in sight (ie at night, sidewalk outside, large multi business office building after hours, in a park, on the train). Don't assume things. There are so many reasons why this person may have kept it.

@Essentials Relax, it's just a friendly suggestion. I think you're reading way too much into @justgenevive's comment.

bump, I have the same question. What tool is necessary to achieve the exact voltage?

- de

Find a friend that has some basic knowledge of direct current (DC) electronics and get them to help out. Recommended if you are reading this.

The easiest way to get access to 5V is to get an old USB cable and charger, then cut off the end to expose the internal wires. They usually have a Red wire = positive +5V, and a Black wire = ground 0V (GND). Then follow previous instructions. Just make sure you don't connect the red to the black as you will short-circuit the wires and possibly damage the USB charger or your fitbit.

Hope this helps.

Thank you very much, that was incredibly informative, and not the least bit condescending considering how basic my question was. You have been very helpful, thanks again.

I would suggest buying an official charger. Not only does it have a reset button, it will also work better.

I wish I understood what any of the above means, but I don't. I have an unofficial charger, so my Fitbit Flex will charge...but there's no reset button. Is there something I can press/do to reset it (in very simple terms)?

All the thing on the official charger does is connect power to the third pin. I'm pretty sure it's supposed to be data...so here's what you do. Get a USB wall charger (do NOT plug it into your computer). The next part I'll describe looking down into your charger with the holding frame on the bottom, so pay careful attention to right and left. Do this part before plugging it in. Looking into the charger, connect the middle pin to the right pin with something metal (aluminum foil is perfect). Make sure it's not touching the left pin. Plug the fitbit charger in, then put in the fitbit. Take it out again within five seconds; if all goes well, lights should have started flashing on it. Unplug it, take the metal bit out again, and it should work normally.

This did nothing for me. :(

I had to send back the fitbit I had because it was faulty, and now have a new one. However, it seems that I can't get the old information off the computer to set up my new one. Does that make sense?

If you find a fitbit return it to the company and they will find the correct owner unless you feel good about keeping a item that someone is looking for, don't be a thief do the right thing and return it.........................

Me too. They've got a register of owners, but will only reunite lost units with owners in the US and Canada. Useless if you're in the UK.

Me too ... So now what?? Should I buy a charger and reset it???
