My fully charged surface pro 2 won't turn on again

It has been on the charger for two whole days, and now it won't turn back on. Is it because it isn't charging, or because it's completely broken?

I have same issue with Surface Pro. After 4 attempts at Power button depression seems to operate fine. What's up with that?

i went to micro soft store at oak park mall and the staff said that i had a bad hard ware and they cant fix it all they can do is to sell me another surface worth $ 4oo something....Really.. that was not my solution :(

I have this same problem since replacing my charger. It does not do it with the charger built for the regular surface with less amperage, but it does it with every after market standard charger I buy. The solution: Hold down the upper volume button, then also hold the power button for about 15 seconds, then let go of the upper volume button, and then let go of the poser button. Wait a few seconds, then it should start. If not, press the power button. After it starts, plug in the power. Then go to Amazon and buy the smaller charger for the regular surface model (Assuming you have the Surface Pro 2) they have the same plug. It may take a little longer to charge (Although I have not noticed it) but it does work fine on mine.

Like already mentioned, hold down the power button for about 30 sec.

Maybe it helps to repeat thise step several times.

If it still not works, hold down contineously the volume-plus-button and then the power button for a while -> starting into the UEFI/BIOS-menue.

If nothing happens, try both more than once.

In my case this helps.

Good luck.

Does the surface pro 2 have a light, at tip where it plugs into the computer, that is suppose to come on when it is getting power? I do not see any light & that may be the problem. A bad power cord!

Read all of your posts with interest. My Surface 2 started to not turn on st the end of last year and it would then get extremely hot in the area behind the power switch. After a few hours it would resolve. Called support as was getting close to end of warranty got me to remove some software and reboot. Ok for a few days then would not power up, came up with error message. Keeping up?

Called again, could not resolve online, I'm a student and really needed it working so asked to send it for diagnosis. BEWARE! TAKE PHOTOS OF DEVICE BEFORE SENDING!

I sent it away, it came back badly damaged with a note saying 'intentional damage not covered by warranty'.

I went berserk, called them and they only replaced it when I provided photos proving that it was fine before I packaged it.

LET THIS BE A WARNING FOR ANYONE THAT IS ASKED TO RETURN THEIR DEVICE FOR REPAIR!

Hope it helps someone as it nearly cost me another £5-600 as they had to replace it with a brand new Surface 3 and keyboard.

The trick that works for me, is to just tap the power button many times. It comes on for me usually in the 15 to 20 presses range. I have a surface pro 2.

i was using my surface about two weeks ago. it was working good than i put it down and a few hours later it would not come on. I thought it was the charger so i got i new one. (its the official plug). I plug it in the light on the charger comes on for 5 minutes then shutoff. I unplug it and then plug it back on. The light comes back one.

This is what I tried

1. I hold the power down for 30 seconds and nothing.

2. I hold the power for 30 sec. release and then vol. up and power for 15 sec. still nothing but when I do this when I hold the vol. up and power down the light on charger turns off then back on. Still wont work.

Plug in power when I do these.

My Surface 2 would not turn on. I tried every trick from the Internet. No luck. I even tried another charger. No luck.

Then I went on vacation for 30 days. On my return I thought I would charge it overnight. Next morning I pressed the power button and it turned on!!!!!

I figure it must have been in 'sleep' mode (MS has a lot of problems with it). The battery must have drained completely and therefore it was no longer in sleep mode. Once recharged it worked normally.

I have turned off 'sleep' mode and the tablet has been working fine!

I have this problem about half the time on my Surface Pro.

1. Hold down the power button for about 30 seconds, release and press it again.

2. If that doesn't work. Hold down the power and volume up button for about 15 seconds, release and press again. It brings up a big menu but you can just exit and you don't have to reboot.

Every day it takes a few minutes to power up the computer and that is whether it is shutdown or sleeping.

I noticed when my surface pro 2 won't turn on even after doing the 30 second power hold and the volume up + power hold... when I taped the windows logo it would vibrate meaning the device had power but was just not responding... finally what seemed to work was I plugged in a usb device (mouse) to charge then I did the power thing, I also noticed the windows icon when tapped no longer vibrated, after a few seconds the screen flashed and it restarted.

Hope this helps someone.

I am having the same issue, Surface Pro goes into sleep mode and pressing the power button doesnt wake it. I am not sure why, but I discovered that (at least on mine), pressing the left mouse button and power button at the same time will wake the Surface.

My Surface Pro would not turn on after leaving it for a few days while I went on holidays. Tried everything. It still will not turn on.

Left it for dead for 1 month. Thought I would give it another try. I charged it up.

It worked!

I believe the problem is 'hibernation'. MS has traditional problem with 'hibernation'. So I guess when the Surface Pro finally ran out of battery power and the unit turned off by itself from hibernation.

I have since disabled hibernation and it has worked for the last year without a problem.

I had the same issue. I placed the surface pro on a heated griddle set to medium heat face down for 3 minutes which initiated thermal power off where when pressing the power button you wouldn't even get the logo to come up, and then after letting it cool down, it powered right up and never had the issue again. I'm guessing thermal power off is same as unplugging the battery and plugging it back in, but without having to disassemble the screen to access the battery. You may need to keep taking the tablet off the griddle and press the power button. Once you see that it won't show the logo, then it's ready to let it cool down and then it will work again. Be careful not to to let it sit too long on the griddle as it may damage the LCD or the battery.
