I need OEM battery only

I need to replace the battery on my iPhone5.

I want a true Apple OEM battery. I don't want to take chances on a 3rd party Li-ion battery, which can be very tricky to manufacture. Remember the exploding Sony batteries?

Are the batteries sold by iFixit true OEM batteries?

Are ANY of the non-Apple replacement batteries really OEM? or will I have to spend $80 at Apple to get their battery?

I am not sure about whether or not iFixit's batteries are genuine OEM.

OEM is a fleeting term in mobile device repair. Many vendors list their products as OEM, but in reality they are not. Most vendors (especially on eBay and Amazon) are buying the worst stuff that is coming out of China. So if you want a good battery you need a good vendor, but they do cost more.

Some parts are listed as aftermarket, but the reality is that they are coming out of the same factories as the original. They just can't be called OEM because Apple would sue anyone that tries to label something as OEM without paying Apple first. Look for what is called "Grade A Aftermarket" It will get you essentially the same thing, but without the upcharge.

Most of the OEM battery comes from Apple Store or old iPhone dismantling.

Mfg. Date is very important.

You don't want an old battery.

Aloke, Yes, if you do want OEM, then you will have to pay the Apple price. They are the only ones that have and sell OEM. Stick with iFixit, the quality is good and the service is par none if you ever have any problems.

I purchased the iFixit kit. $25 vs $80 is a big difference.

All I have to do is make it last 1 year (without it exploding :-)

I'll upgrade my phone in Fall 2014.

I love iFixIt. !&&*, I drew up a resume to send their way I was so into what they do. Alas, my story is not one of great recommendation. The 5C battery I bought from iFixIt started off great. It was easy to install and started off strong. However, after about 3 to 4 months the battery doesn't hold a charge for more than 4 hours at most (and this is with wifi, bluetooth, and location services off along with only 2 to 3 apps open).

They have fantastic customer service, even greater user guides, excellent support for all their products, and intuitive website design. The only failing is with whoever the supplier is for these batteries who, by association, is partially eroding their sterling rep. Sorry...this battery sort of sucks.
