Should I replace my display glass?

Also, this was incredibly stupid of me, but when trying to bend the display assembly back, I apparently had a corner of the glass grabbed and a cracked it in a 1/2" by 1/2" square. This is in the absolute bottom left corner and is so small that I doubt it will ever be more than a cosmetic issue. Will this void my warranty? I'm wondering because if it will I'd like to replace the glass myself because I've still got two years left with AppleCare.

Well, the biggest concern I have is that there are some internal issues with the computer that were happening before the crack in the bottom left corner. There was flickering on the screen when it awoke from sleep that has been getting worse as time wears on.

From reading a tutorial on how to disassemble the display itself to remove the glass, it seems that it isn't super difficult. The tutorial can be found here. It's 60$ for the glass itself. I understand I could damage the LCD if I'm not careful, but I believe I'd be able to do it without any issue.

Here are two images showing the crack.

1. Apple will take that crack in to consideration if there is another issue with the computer.

I had an iphone with a long scratch on the back and they wouldn't repair/replace the phone because of "user damages" so for some reason my keys scratching my phone effected my battery life according to the genius bar.

The Genius bar has quotas on what they can and cannot replace. While apple leads the industry in customer satisfaction they still are a business.

2. Replacing the Glass is difficult and time consuming for even an experienced technician, internal damages are very possible in this type of repair.

I would take it in to apple and see what they think. Tell them nothing is wrong with the computer and you don't understand why the glass would break so easy. It is possible they will fix it for free but they will most likely quote you for a repair.

Let us know how you make out. it would be nice to hear your feedback in this situation.

Best of Luck!

agree with the post - take it to apple if you can and see what they say. Though just cosmetic - if you ever want to sell it to upgrade you wil suffer
