Can I use a 2 TB drive to replace a 1TB

I have a first generation Time Capsule, version 6,106. The drive seems to have gone bad and I'd like to replace it. Does anyone know if I can upgrade the drive to a 2 TB capacity rather than the 1 TB that it shipped with?

Many thanks!

Yes, it can be done!

A 2 or 3 TB WD Green drive should be just fine here. I would recommend opening the fans venting a bit. You will use the AirPort configuration tool to prep the drive (it does not use either a Mac or Windows file system).

Dan, thanks very much for the information. I removed the drive (an Hitachi Drivestar) that I tested with Drive Genius. It's got some serious bad blocks that stop the test in it's tracks.

I decided to not replace the drive at all and use the unit as an Airport Express. My backup strategy is more centered around Carbon Copy Cloner with USB-attached drives. I don't like using Time Capsule for my MBP as it's slow over wireless.

I was a bit surprised to find that the unit will operate without a drive, but so far, so good. If I change my mind in the future, I still have the option to add back the drive.

Again, many thanks for your answer!
